Organizations Filed Purposes: The Green Urban Lunch Box is a community food production agency engaging the community in local production to make fresh food resources available in their community in new and creative ways. Working in the middle of Salt Lake City's urban landscape, we are challenging ourselves and our city to look at natural resources, food systems, and community involvement in innovative ways.

In our Back-Farms program, we were able to harvest 9,291 pounds of fresh produce. The majority of this produce was distributed to 125 senior citizens and 45 cancer patients on a weekly basis. This contributes to our organizational total of 55,594 pounds. Overall, approximately 4,625 families received produce through our distribution sites and partners. We are very intentional with "how" our produce is grown. In the backyards of the 40 low-income senior citizens in our Back-Farms program, we teach garden apprentices of all ages sustainable growing techniques, foster deep cross-generational relationships, and create a positive food culture in our community.

In 2019, our FruitShare program recovered 37,303 pounds of fruit that would have otherwise gone to waste, with the help of 162 volunteers who dedicated 615 hours of service. Our volunteers are educated on basic fruit tree maintenance, learn the significance of fresh nutritious food, and forge a deep connection to their community. The fruit is collected and distributed (through both our partners' and our own distribution channels) to families in need.

SFI is our urban farmer training program that aims to increase the number of successful local farmers in Salt Lake County. The central purpose of SFI is to provide participants with the technical skills, entrepreneurial acumen, and hands-on experience required to start successful small farm businesses. The program, based on our three-acre Community Farm in South Salt Lake, is built specifically for low to moderate income individuals in Salt Lake City.
