Organizations Filed Purposes: Through education, recreation and stewardship, Retreat Farm uses our 500 acres of conserved woods, fields, trails, and waters to connect people to one another and the land.

Preserving the Retreat Farm's historically, culturally, and environmentally significant lands and buildings and advancing a healthier, more resourceful greater Brattleboro community.

RESTORATION - THE FORESTS, FARMLANDS, TRAILS, WATERWAYS, HISTORIC BARNS, AND GROUNDS OF THE FARM ARE INCREASINGLY CENTRAL TO THE HEALTH AND LIFE OF THE COMMUNITY. WE BELIEVE THIS UNIQUE PROPERTY HAS TWO VITAL FUNCTIONSCONNECTING PEOPLE TO THE LAND AND CONNECTING PEOPLE TO ONE ANOTHER. AS WE RESTORE THE BUILDINGS AND LANDS OF THE FARM, 37,328 PEOPLE PARTICIPATED IN BUILDING THE INVALUABLE CONNECTIONS THAT ENRICH THEIR LIVES, THE COMMUNITY, AND THE ENTIRE REGION IN 2019 AT RETREAT FARM.

EDUCATION IN OUR CORNERSTONE CHILDRENS FARM AND FOREST PROGRAM, NEARLY 20,000 CHILDREN AND THEIR CAREGIVERS CONNECTED WITH ANIMALS IN THE BARN, LEAPT IN THE FOREST PLAYGROUND, PICKED VEGGIES AND FLOWERS, AND PRACTICED READING DURING A STORYBOOK WALK. THE NUMBER OF GROUPS LEARNING ON THE FARM DOUBLED WITH 168 SCHOOL VISITS AND THE CONTINUATION OF OUR YEAR LONG PROGRAMS WITH ST. MICHAEL'S SCHOOL AND HORIZON EARLY LEARNING, TOTALING OVER 5,300 SERVICE HOURS. IN OUR PILOT YEAR AS A SUMMER MEALS SITE, WE SERVED OVER 700 LUNCHES, COMPLEMENTED BY FRESH-FROM-THE-GARDEN TASTE TESTS AND ENRICHING FARM EXPERIENCES. OUR NEW COMMUNITY GARDEN PROVIDED NOURISHMENT AND FRESH FOOD FOR 12 FAMILIES.

COMMUNITY GATHERINGS - THE FAST-GROWING COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION IN OUR COMMUNITY GATHERINGS DEMONSTRATES THE IMPACT OF SHARED EXPERIENCES AND THE UNMATCHED ATMOSPHERE OF FARMHOUSE SQUARE. THROUGH OUR COMMITMENT TO MAKING RETREAT FARM AN ACCESSIBLE, DIVERSE, AND MULTICULTURAL SPACE FOR ALL VISITORS TO ENJOY, ATTENDANCE DOUBLED TO JUST UNDER 18,000 PEOPLE, WITH OVER 80% OF OUR PROGRAMMING OFFERED FOR FREE OR AT LOW COST. THE BACKDROP OF THE FARM SERVED AS INSPIRATION FOR SANDGLASS THEATERS PUPPETS IN PARADISE, THREE EVENINGS OF MUSIC FROM THE BRATTLEBORO MUSIC CENTER AND PERFORMANCES FROM NEW ENGLAND CENTER FOR CIRCUS ARTS AND NEW ENGLAND YOUTH THEATER.
