THE FLYNN CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS FOSTERS THE ENJOYMENT, UNDERSTANDING AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE PERFORMING ARTS IN VERMONT THROUGH DIVERSE AND ENGAGING ARTISITIC EXPERIENCES. THE FLYNN FULFILLS THIS MISSION THROUGH THE FOLLOWING:DEVELOPING, MAINTAINING AND MANAGING THE HISTORIC FLYNN THEATER AND FLYNN CENTER PROPERTIES TO MEET CURRENT AND EVOLVING PERFORMING ARTS NEEDS.PRESENTING A DIVERSE RANGE OF HIGH QUALITY PERFORMANCES BY ESTABLISHED AND EMERGING ARTIST THAT EXPAND AND ENRICH THE COMMUNITY'S CULTURAL EXPERIENCES.PROVIDING EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS THAT ENGAGE CHILDREN, TEENS AND ADULTS IN THE ARTISTIC PROCESS, CULTIVATE APPRECIATION OF THE PERFORMING ARTS, AND MAKE THE PERFORMING ARTS AN INTEGRAL PART OF SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY LIFE.SUPPORT LOCAL, NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS IN THE DEVELOPMENT AND PRESENTATION OF THEIR WORK.
THE FLYNN CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS FOSTERS THE ENJOYMENT, UNDERSTANDING AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE PERFORMING ARTS IN VERMONT THROUGH DIVERSE AND ENGAGING ARTISTIC EXPERIENCES. SIGNIFICANT ACTIVITIES INCLUDE PROGRAMMING OF TWO VENUES AND STUDENT MATINEES PERFORMANCES, THE BURLINGTON DISCOVER JAZZ FESTIVAL, PROVIDING A HOME TO OTHER PERFORMING ARTS ORGANIZATIONS AS WELL AS ARTS EDUCATION BOTH ON-SITE AND IN SCHOOLS.
DURING ITS 2018-2019 FISCAL YEAR THE FLYNN CENTER PROGRAMMED ITS TWO VENUES - THE MAINSTAGE (1,411 SEATS), FLYNNSPACE (180 SEATS) AS WELL AS TWO STUDIOS. - THE PERFORMING ARTS SEASON INCLUDED 229 PERFORMANCES ATTENDED BY MORE THAN 116,800 MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC AND 1,512 REDEEMED DISCOUNT VOUCHERS WERE PROVIDED TO 68 SOCIAL SERVICES AGENCIES.- THERE WERE 45 STUDENT MATINEE PERFORMANCES ATTENDED BY 33,500 SCHOOLCHILDREN (INCLUDING 8,800 SUBSIDIZED TICKETS) FROM 174 SCHOOLS AS WELL AS 202 HOME SCHOOL FAMILIES.- THE CITY-WIDE BURLINGTON DISCOVER JAZZ FESTIVAL PRESENTED 107 PERFORMANCES IN FLYNN AND COMMUNITY SPACES INCLUDING 131 HOURS OF FREE MUSIC ATTENDED BY AN ESTIMATED 70,000 PEOPLE.
INSTRUCTORS COMPLETED 707 HOURS OF SCHOOL WORKSHOPS IN 72 SCHOOLS, AS WELL AS 79 TEACHER WORKSHOPS HOURS.OFFERED THE ARTS EDUCATION PROGRAM, FLYNNARTS FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS WITH 125 CLASSES, WORKSHOPS AND CAMPS AND 1,463 PARTICIPANTS WITH $31,900 ON SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED. PROVIDED 28 MULTI-DAY ARTIST ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES THAT INCLUDED 10 PRE- AND POST-PERFORMANCE DISCUSSIONS AND 15 MASTERCLASSES, WORKSHOPS OR DEMONSTRATIONS.
