Program ServiceIn 2020, Family Play continues to be our largest program, whether it is on site at 20 Allen Street, or at the Ethan Allen Homestead. We provide child care for parents who are taking English classes through our partners: Vermont Adult Learning and USCRI. We provide support, sewing, book groups, parent advocacy, civic engagement, gardening education and other various workshops. For children, we offer a wide range of small and gross motor activities, socialization, developmentally focused play spaces, sensory activities, singing and story time. We focus on the protective factors in all of our work - parental resilience, social connections, concrete supports, knowledge of parenting and child development as well as social competence of children. We also have a significant fatherhood program including Dads Night, mentoring, home visiting, case management, supported visits with noncustodial fathers, parent education, outdoor activities and prenatal workshops. Our five-star licensed preschool is another of our programs. We provide preschool services to up to 18 children who are 3 to 5 years old. We use an emerging curriculum and diverse teaching team which focus on being outside and healthy social interactions, and being connected with students parents. We provide healthy snacks and meals for the class and encourage parents to be involved. During 2020, we have given an immense focus on meeting the basic needs of families, especially addressing food insecurity. We have been providing culturally appropriate foods, diapers, sanitizer, soap, masks and household supplies; as well as helping families pay for other necessities as it had been more imperative given the current rate of unemployment.
