Organizations Filed Purposes:
RADEF is organized to inform and educate the public about their human rights under state, national and international law, and to promote discussion and understanding of the character of an effective and robust democracy with respect to political participation and to economic and social justice.
New Social Contract For Workers- RDI supported efforts to expand workers rights with its public education work inVermont and New Hampshire. This included collecting stories about the lack oflivable wages, paid sick and family leave and jb safety.- In September of 2019, RDI joined Partners For Dignity & Rights, the NationalEmployment Law Project, Jobs With Justice, Peoples Action, and the Center ForPopular Democracy in producing a report called A New Social Contract ForWorkers.- On September 15, RDI hosted a stop on the New Social Contract Tour inManchester, NH with nearly one hundred participants including special guestsLinda Sarsour and Jennifer Epps-Addison.- RDI regularly had interviews discussing topics of workers rights and economicjustice on the WDEV radio show Equal Time Radio produced out of Waterbury,VT
Rural Organizing- Held hundreds of conversations with people in small towns and cities across ruralcommunities in New Hampshire and Vermont discussing the most pressingissues facing working families.- Conducted skill-building workshops with dozens of grassroots leaders on thepower of telling their stories, having transformative conversations and buildingstronger communities.- Lifted up the stories about the interconnections between the needs for economic,racial and climate justice.
Jobs Justice & Climate- RDI expanded our Jobs, Justice & Climate work by deepening our relationshipswith key strategic partners on a state, regional and national level building towards a transformative vision to have an equity-based just transition of the economy.- In Vermont, we have worked with Vermont State Labor Council AFL-CIO, the Nulhegan Band of the Coosuk Abenaki Nation, local chapters of the Sunrise Movement and key leaders such as former State Representative Kiah Morris.- Starting Fall 2019, RDI conducted over 40 stakeholder interviews with a broad range of groups to identify the key values of our communities which will need to underpin the policy solutions we will need to meet the challenges ahead.- On October 9, 2019 we hosted a panel with over 250 participants at Castleton State College exploring a Green Mountain New Deal with State Representative Robin Chestnut-Tangerman and Beatrice Parwatikar from the Rutland AreaNAACP.- After interviewing dozens of partners across the region, we realized the deeply interconnectedness of our shared challenges. In December 2019, RDI helped convene allied groups across New England about building a region wide vision for a Green New Deal. The groups included the New Hampshire Youth Movement, 350NH, Maine Peoples Alliance, Connecticut Citizen Action Group, Rhode Island Political Co-op, and the Massachusetts Green New Deal Coalition.- RDI also began working in closer collaboration with our national partners Peoples Action and the Center For Popular Democracy on this work. In late 2019, we began working with them to help plan and facilitate a public education and narrative development process to create a shared vision for an equitable future. In addition to getting their support, we hoped to make sure our work in Vermont and across the region was connected to the new Green New Deal national network, which was being built on a similar timeline.
