The Vermont Brewers Association was founded in 1995 to promote and strengthen the culture of craft brewing in Vermont through marketing, education and advocacy for Vermont made beer. The industry has an estimated economic impact of $326M, supports 2,304 jobs at an average wage of $40,897 and contributes $126.7M direct to tourism. Current membership size is 59 breweries. There are 11.5 breweries per 100,000 21+ residents (ranks 1st in the nation) producing 292,479 barrels of craft beer annually. We have 7 active committees focused on executing our strategic plan in the areas of advocacy, marketing, education, finance, sustainability, events and membership governance. The Vermont Brewers Festival in Burlington has been running for 26 years and is one of the premier beer festivals in the world attracting over 10,000 people to the waterfront the third weekend in July. The Vermont Brewers Festival in Killington is a festival focused on collaboration, creating beers only offered at that event to patrons in an all outdoor landscape with food trucks, fire pits and music. Ticket sales from these events are the primary income that supports the Associations programming.
Our Technical and Education Committees goal is to provide education and training to member brewers with the goal of improving and maintaining the highest quality standard of beer brewed in Vermont. We organize and present two technical sessions each year with a focus on industry experts presenting in areas of brewing, operations, expansion planning and sensory training. This year we launched a mobile app, the development of which was supported through a grant we received from the Northern Border Regional Commission. The mobile app was launched on January 1st and had 10,000 downloads in the first year. The intention of the app is that it supports increased traffic to our members taprooms across the state. Governor Scott recognized the development of our app as one of the more impactful programs they have funded with the NBRC resources at a press conference held at Kingdom Brewing in February.
