Conservation Corps - In 2019, the Corps improved over 48 miles of trails throughout the New England states. Overall, they employed over 55 crew members for their seasonal summer projects. They worked on 25 trails at 16 different sites in the six New England states of Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. During Their time at Cow Mountain, they created a vista view and then made a bench out of the trees they had cut down.
Education, Groups & Camps- The Education Dept hosted 5,879 program participants in 2019. There were 255 campers and were involved with 28 schools and colleges. The summer camps were busy with various levels of Mountain Bike camps at our partner site, Burke Mountain Resort. We hosted overnight Canoe Camp and Earth Sisters Camp, Wild Science Discovery and Nature Day to name a few. The schools programs ranged from canoeing to snow shoeing and ice fishing depending on the season.
Conservation Science- The NorthWoods Watershed Crew, which was funded through a VT Department of Environmental Conservation Grant, in partnership VTrans, built two sets of stone steps leading from pull-offs on Route 5A down to the water at popular swimming spots. They also planted over 10,570 trees, shrubs and tubestock, improved 7 watersheds and did 26 water quality projects.
