Organizations Filed Purposes:
For God and Country, we associate ourselves together for many purposes. To uphold and defend the Constitution of these United States; to maintain law and order; to foster and perpetuate Americanism; to preserve the memories and incidents of our association in the Great Wars; to inculcate a sense of individual obligation to community, state and nation.
We are a wartime Veteran association that is established to support fellow Veterans/active duty military and their families in many ways. We offer a place for fellow comrades to gather. We send out care packages to active duty military troops. We remember and honor all those who have served our country and community by their unselfish generosity of self in military service. Through our efforts, American Flags are placed at each grave if deceased Veterans each Memorial Day. We arrange a Parade and ceremony to ensure Memorial day is day of remembrance for all the men and women who have given their lives to the service of our country.
We support our local community in many ways. For over 30 years we have arranged and provided a July 4th fireworks display for our neighbors and friends in our community. Each year we donate $5,500 of Scholarships to our local high school to promote further education. Every year needy individuals and organizations seek donations from this American Legion Post. To accomplish our community goals we are fortunate to have over 50 member volunteers who have given more than 3000 hours of time to our goal of community service.
We have a very active Color Guard with more than twenty members. The Color Guard marches and participates in numerous parades within the State of Vermont and the VJ parade in Connecticut. The Color Guard also performs Military Honors at all Veteran Funerals and Burials. The firing Squad honors deceased Veterans with a gun salute, taps, and presents the flag to the Veteran's survivors.
