IT WORKS WITH AND FOR ELDER VERMONTERS AND THE ORGANIZATIONS THAT SERVE THEM TO IDENTIFY, INTERPRET, AND RESPOND TO CRITICAL ISSUES THAT IMPACT THE DIGNITY, SECURITY, AND WELL BEING OF SENIORS.

VERMONT SENIOR MEDICARE PATROL(VT-SMP): SMP'S MISSION AND MESSAGE IS TO PREVENT MEDICARE ERROR, FRAUD,AND ABUSE. SMP SEEKS TO EMPOWER OLDER VERMONTERS BY INCREASED AWARENESS AND UNDERSTANDING OF HEALTH CARE PROGRAMS IN ORDER FOR INDIVIDUALS TO PREVENT, DETECT, AND REPORT INSTANCES OF MEDICARE ERROR, FRAUD, AND ABUSE. THIS MISSION IS ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH DISSENMINATION ACTIVITITES, TABLING AT EVENTS, SOCIAL MEDIA, AND THE COVE WEBSITE. IN 2019 SMP HELD OVER 100 PRESENTATIONS WHICH REACHED ALMOST 5,000 PEOPLE.
BUILDING BRIDGES TO SERVICES FOR OLDER VERMONTERS IS FUNDED THROUGH THE CENTER FOR CRIME VICTIM SERVICES AND THE VICTIMS OF CRIME ACT. THIS PROGRAM FOCUSES ON GENERAL SCAM, FRAUD, AND EXPLOITAITION PREVENTION. EDUCATION AND RESOURCES ARE MADE AVAILABLE TO PARTICIPANTS IN EDUCATIONAL PRESENTATIONS, PEER SUPORT GROUPS, MICRO-CONFERENCES, WORKING GROUPS, RADIO PRESENTATIONS, AND TABLING EVENTS. THIS PRGRAM GAVE A TOTAL OF 96 PRESENTATIONS TO 1,881 PARTICIPANTS, INCLUDING A MICRO-CONFERENCE IN THE MOST REMOTE AND ISOLATED PART OF VERMONT.
COVE ENGAGES IN PUBLIC POLICY ADVOCACY, RESEARCH, AND EDUCATION THROUGH A CONTRACT WITH THE FIRM NECRASON GROUP. THE FIRM EDUCATES POLICY MAKERS ABOUT ISSUES AFFECTING ELDERS AND WORKS WITH BOTH LEGISLATORS AND EXECUTIVE BRANCH STAFF TO GET THOSE ISSUES ADDRESSED. A LARGE GROUP OF STAKEHOLDERS ARE REGULARLY ENGAGED TO INFORM COVE'S TEAM ABOUT COMMUNITY EXPERIENCE AND FOR COVE TO COMMUNICATE DEVELOPMENTS BACK OUT TO THE COMMUNITTIES WE SERVE. COVE STAFF COORDINATE COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH, EDUCATION, AND OUTREACH ABOUT ISSUES AMONG STAKEHOLDERS AND COVE MEMBERSHIP.
