Organizations Filed Purposes:
To continue monitoring weather the same way as done since 1885. To maintain and develop a meticulous weather and climate record. To educate the public about Atmospheric Science, the history of Blue Hills observatory and many STEAM topics.
The Organization hosted over 200 formal educational programs with over 4,000 attendees. There were 50 kite making workshops (1,000 attendees), 30 Weather Watching Programs (500 attended), 34 Guided Hikes (over 500 attendees), 56 Observatory Exploration Lessons (over 700 attendees), over 6 outreach programs served over 800 People and a dozen custom programs served over 150 people.Our rooftop only tour hosted over 1,500 adults and over 750 youth. Our General Tour had over 400 adults and over 300 youth. The In-Depth tour hosted over 80 adults and over 70 youth.All of these programs combined with Open Houses, walk in brief introductions and webinars and other on-line presence we contine to serve over 10,000 people each year. The summer and school year intern programs served 6 students this year.
The Women in Natural Sciences (WINS) program continues to transform to serve an ever changing demographic. We worked more thoroughly with STEAM Beans as some other programs closed or changed their programming. To fill the gap we reached out to more Girl Scouts and more Big Sister opportunities. The number of girls served is still about 120 but the number of programs those girls attend has gone down.
Conducted 17th Annual Southern New England Weather Conference attended by over 125 scientists, teachers and weather enthusiasts. The full-day programfeatured nationally known meteorologists and climatologists as presenters.
