To inspire and nurture a lifelong appreciation for classical music throughout the community.
Programming for the 9-day summer Festival, August 19-27, "GROUNDBREAKERS", focused on visionary composers of the last 500 years who dared to stretch the musical limits of their time. We had over 20 individual events during the Festival, and ticket sales were excellent. Our education programming continued with the presentation of two educational concerts at the FlynnSpace in collaboration with the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts. Both concerts featured newly commissioned works by graduates of our summer Young Composers Seminar. In addition, we commissioned a third alum to write a piece for the Burlington Chamber Orchestra. Our ONE Strings program at the Integrated Arts Academy at the H.O. Wheeler School began its 7th year in the fall, with all 4th/5th graders having in-school group violin lessons twice a week. Our summer resident ensemble - our commissioned Young Composers - worked with the Strings students when they were in Burlington for their concerts.
The Festival was a fiscal sponsor for TURNmusic which offers contemporary concert chamber music in unusual settings with performances by Vermont musicians. Conductor Anne Decker has mixed her musical tastes to create a unique set of performances in relaxed venues and at affordable ticket prices. LCCMF's mission to inspire a love of chamber music in our community is furthered by the work of TURNmusic.
