Organizations Filed Purposes: THE MISSION OF THE ALLIANCE IS TO BE AN INDEPENDENT VOICE, EARNEST ADVOCATE, AND STATEWIDE PARTICIPANT THAT ADVANCES POLICIES AND PRACTICES TO CONTINUALLY IMPROVE PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT IN WEST VIRGINIA.

AMERICORPS ON THE FRONTLINE. AMERICORPS MEMBERS VOLUNTEER IN TEN WEST VIRGINIA COUNTIES AND PROVIDED MORE THAN 10,000 MENTORING SESSIONS TO 642 AT-RISK STUDENTS IN GRADES 3-12. THESE SESSIONS HELP STUDENTS DEVELOP POSITIVE ATTITUDES TOWARDS SCHOOL AND LEARNING, PROBLEM SOLVING, SOCIAL SKILLS, NOTE TAKING, HOMEWORK HELP AND TIME MANAGEMENT. THE STUDENTS ARE IN THE FOLLOWING WEST VIRGINIA COUNTIES: BERKELEY, CABELL, JEFFERSON, KANAWHA, LINCOLN, LOGAN, PLEASANTS, RANDOLPH, WAYNE, AND WOOD.

THE STEM PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO INCREASE INTEREST IN SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING AND MATH. FUNDING RECEIVED TRAINED 500 TEACHERS ON STEM PRACTICES AND PARTNERED WITH 250 BUSINESSES TO OFFER JOB-SHADOWING ACTIVITIES AND EXTENDED LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS. FUNDS WERE ALSO USED FOR TO STRENGHTHEN MATH IN ELEMENTARY GRADES AND TO PROMOTE THE IMPORTANCE OF MATH TO THE BROADER COMMUNITY. THE PROJECT PROVIDES 2,200 ELEMENTARY STUDENTS IN LINCOLN AND LOGAN COUNTIES WITH AN EFFECTIVE COMPUTER-BASED SUPPLEMENTAL CIRRICULUM TO IMPROVE MATH OUTCOMES.

PARTNERSHIP IN EDUCATION PROGRAMS NURTURE AND STRENGTHEN BUSINESS-SCHOOL PARTNERSHIPS IN ORDER TO PREPARE STUDENTS WHO ARE COLLEGE AND CAREER READY. BLENDED LEARNING SUPPORTED 247 PARTNERSHIPS IN 7 RURAL SCHOOLS TO RECEIVE TRAINING ON "BLENDING" FACE-TO-FACE INSTRUCTION WITH ONLINE RESOURCES AND HANDS-ON-LEARNING THROUGH MAKERSPACES. WV READY INTERNSHIP SUPPORTED 15 HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO RECEIVE A 4-WEEK SUMMER INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE WITH TOP WEST VIRGINIA BUSINESSES.
