SUPPORTS THE DEVELOPMENT, GROWTH AND CONTINUATION OF CHILD ADVOCACY CENTERS AND MULTI-DISCIPLINARY TEAMS SO THAT WEST VIRGINIA COMMUNITIES CAN BETTER SERVE CHILDREN AND FAMILIES WHEN CONCERNS OF CHILD ABUSE ARISE.
SUPPORTS THE DEVELOPMENT, GROWTH AND CONTINUATION OF CHILD ADVOCACY CENTERS AND MULTI-DISCIPLINARY TEAMS
COUNTY EXPANSION WVCAN has developed and maintained critical partnerships with foundations in the state region to grow the number of counties served in WV by an accredited CAC from 38 to 44 from 2016 to 2019. 323,613 children 90 of the states population now live in a county offically served by a CAC. WVCAN aided new or expanding centers through subgrants, connecting them to resources and national experts, providing networking and mentoring opportunities, assisting with strategic planning and board development, and many other valuable services.
QUALITY IMPROVEMENT WVCAN helped local CACs evaluate their programs, measure outcomes, and improve the quality of services they provide to children, families, and the communities they serve. Every CAC in WV received an individualized data report that compared their annual data with other CACs in the state and across the nation. WVCAN brought national experise to WV, conducted on-site and statewide training sessions, worked with local CACs on board development strategic planning, hosted a virtual statewide conference for professionals in the field. WVCAN trained 1,534 individuals at 65 unique offerings and provided over 1,387 hours of individulaized technical assistance to the 21 CACs in WV.
PREVENTION In collaboration with partners on the West Virgina Task Force on the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse Erins Law implementation efforts, educational tools were produced to help WV teachers, school service personnel, youth-serving organizations, parents and community members become more comfortable recognizing signs and symptoms of abuse and knowing how to respond.
