Organizations Filed Purposes: TO CONDUCT RESEARCH, EDUCATION, AND TRAINING IN THE AREA OF THE HUMAN-ANIMAL BOND WITH THE OUTCOME OF BENEFITING THE HUMAN AND ANIMAL CONDITION.

SERVICE DOG TRAINING AND PLACEMENT: WE OFFERED 4 COLLEGE LEVEL COURSES AT WVU IN THE SPRING, SUMMER, AND FALL WITH APPROXIMATELY 150 PARTICIPATING STUDENTS. MONTHLY MEETINGS WERE HELD WITH FOSTERS AND VOLUNTEERS AND TWICE WEEKLY CLASSES WERE TAUGHT TO THE INMATE TRAINERS (25 PARTICPANTS) AT FCI MORGANTOWN. THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, WE HAD 8 VETERANS WORKING WITH DOGS TOWARDS PLACEMENT. WE ENROLLED 14 VETERANS IN THE ONLINE CANINE BASICS COURSE, OF WHICH 11 COMPLETED THE COURSE AND WERE INVITED TO IN PERSON TRAINING. NINE OF THE 11 STUDENTS ENROLLED IN THE HANDS-ON TRAINING AND 8 OF THEM COMPLETED THE TRAINING TO EARN THEIR HANDLER BADGES. WE ALSO ENROLLED 9 ADDITIONAL VETERANS IN THE ONLINE COURSE AT THE END OF THE YEAR TO BEGIN HANDS ON TRAINING IN 2020. BRED ONE OF OUR PROGRAM FEMALES TO PRODUCE THE NEXT WAVE OF SERVICE DOG PROSPECTS IN JANUARY OF 2020.

REHABILITATION AND SPECIAL EDUCATION (DISABILITY AWARENESS): WE CONDUCTED 48 EVENTS DURING THE YEAR INVOLVING DISABILITY AWARENESS RESULTING IN A MINIMUM OF 492 VOLUNTEER HOURS. DURING THESE EVENTS VOLUNTEERS VISITED VARIOUS COMMUNITY LOCATIONS AND PROVIDED EDUCATION ON SERVICE DOGS, THEIR BENEFITS, AND PROPER ETIQUETTE FOR INTERACTING WITH HANDLER TEAMS. MANY OF THESE EVENTS FOCUSED ON THE POTENTIAL IMPACT OF SERVICE DOGS ON VETERANS WITH MOBILITY AND PSYCHOLOGICAL DISABILITIES. WORKED WITH WVU CHILDRENS HOSPITAL TO EDUCATE STAFF AND ADMINISTRATION ON THE BENEFITS OF A THERAPY DOG WHILE WORKING ON FINAL STAGES OF TRAINING FOR A DOG FOR THE HOSPITAL.

QUARRY MEADOWS AT JASMINE ACRES: PLANS CONTINUE TO DEVELP FOR AN INTERGENERATIONAL ANIMAL ASSISTED LIVING COMMUNITY AT QUARRY RUN. MEETING WAS HELD RELATED TO THE POTENTIAL FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A GROUP HOME FOR DISABLED ADOLESCENTS. MEMBERS OF THE VETERAN COMMUNITY VISITED THE SITE TO DISCUSS PLANS FOR THE VETERAN HOUSING. DISCUSSIONS BEGAN WITH POTENTIAL DONORS. CONTINUED WITH IMPROVEMENTS TO THE LODGE AND STONE BARN. LANDSCAPING, REFINISHING FLOORS, AND IMPROVING BUILDING INSULATION AND CLEANING OUT THE OLD BARN.
