Organizations Filed Purposes:
We are dedicated to reinforcing community partnerships, establishing services where needed, and uncovering specific problems in the community while helping solve those problems.
The drug prevention program at the Brooke Hancock Family Resource Network works towards reducing substance abuse in Brooke and Hancock counties through prevention focused on youth and families. We provide educational resources, evidence-based prevention education to local schools, and maintain a library of prevention materials for distribution throughout the community to promote an alcohol and drug free life style. These initiatives are made possible by working with the federal Drug Free Communities and the statewide Substance Abuse Prevention programs. An estimated 40,000 residents have heard or seen our messages though local media campaigns including television spots, radio spots, billboards, and newspaper inserts. We support youth initiatives by hosting a local RAZE Crew, a youth lead anti-tobacco program consisting of 11 current members, in addition to supporting other Crews in the community.
The Parents as Teachers Program is an in home family education program that works with families who are prenatal through kindergarten entry. Certified parent educators conduct twice monthly home visits that center on the childs development as well as working to strengthen the family. In addition to home visits the program offers monthly group connections, where families come together to support and encourage each other.
Family and Community Support Programs assist individuals to live at home and in the communtiy by identifying resources and aligning processes designed to support persons with disabilities in integrated settings, with emphasis on individualizing and maximizing community resources. A priority population to be served through the program is families of individuals on the Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities Waiver waiting list as defined in Benjamin H. v. Joan Ohl and those who are not eligible for Home and Community Based Services Waiver programs.
