THE JACKSON HOLE LAND TRUST (JHLT) IS A PRIVATE, NONPROFIT THAT WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1980. The Land Trust's mission is to protect and steward the treasured landscapes of Northwest Wyoming. The Land Trust's vision is a legacy of protected open spaces, wildlife habitat, working lands and community spaces across Northwest Wyoming that inspire current and future generations.
PROTECTION DEPARTMENT: THE JHLT WORKS WITH LANDOWNERS TO PROTECT LAND FOR CONSERVATION PURPOSES INCLUDING OPEN SPACES, HISTORIC RANCHING, WILDLIFE HABITAT AND CORRIDORS, AND SCENIC CORRIDORS. DURING THE YEAR THE JHLT PROTECTED 87 ACRES CONSISTING OF WIND RIVER ROOKERY AND HIGH SCHOOL BUTTE PROPERTIES. TO DATE THE JHLT HAS HELPED TO PROTECT OVER 57,000 ACRES IN AND AROUND JACKSON HOLE AND THE GREATER YELLOWSTONE AREA. THE LAND TRUST ALSO GRANTED $250,000 TO A RELATED NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION FOR THE PURPOSES OF PURCHASING LAND CURRENTLY PROTECTED BY A CONSERVATION EASEMENT HELD BY JHLT. THE LAND TRUST ALSO GRANTED $100,000 TO THE CONSERVATION FUND TO ASSIST WITH THE TRANSFER OF A PROPERTY TO THE USFS. THE LAND TRUST GRANTED $5,000 TO OTHER NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS SUPPORTING LAND PROTECTION.
COMMUNITY CONSERVATION AND PUBLIC OUTREACH AND EDUCATION: THE JHLT EDUCATES THE PUBLIC AND LANDOWNERS ABOUT OUR WORK TO PROTECT CONSERVATION VALUES ON PRIVATE LANDS THROUGH EASEMENTS. THIS IS DONE THROUGH LETTERS, PUBLICATIONS, OUR WEBSITE AND EMAIL LIST, IN THE PRESS, PROFESSIONAL SEMINARS, PHONE CALLS, FIELD TRIPS AND EVENTS ON EASEMENT-PROTECTED PROPERTIES SUCH AS R PARK, AND ONE-ON-ONE MEETINGS, BOTH IN JACKSON AND WITH DONORS IN CITIES AROUND THE U.S. THE LAND TRUST FORMED AN OPEN SPACE COUNCIL IN 2002, NOW WITH OVER 50 MEMBERS, AS ANOTHER MEANS OF OUTREACH TO THE COMMUNITY.
STEWARDSHIP DEPARTMENT: THE JHLT'S STEWARDSHIP DEPARTMENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ACTIVELY MONITORING AND ENFORCING THE CONSERVATION EASEMENTS THAT THE LAND TRUST HOLDS, AND STEWARDING THE PROPERTIES THAT THE JHLT HOLDS IN FEE. THE JHLT WORKS TO UPHOLD THE CONSERVATION VALUES ON EASEMENT-PROTECTED AND FEE PROPERTIES ON OVER 57,000 ACRES OF LAND IN NORTHWEST WYOMING.
