Organizations Filed Purposes: YOUNG WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION (YWCA) OF SWEETWATER COUNTY IS DEDICATED TO ELIMINATING RACISM, EMPOWERING WOMEN, AND PROMOTING PEACE, JUSTICE, FREEDOM AND DIGNITY FOR ALL.

THE YWCA EARLY CARE AND LEARNING CENTER IN ROCK SPRINGS PROVIDES QUALITY, DEPENDABLE CHILDCARE TO AN AVERAGE OF ONE HUNDRED CHILDREN PER DAY FROM BIRTH TO AGE TWELVE. THE ORIGINAL CENTER OPENED IN 1977. IN 2009, A SEPARATE INFANT AND TODDLER CENTER WAS BUILT. CHILDREN LEARN FROM A DEVELOPMENTALLY APPROPRIATE CURRICULUM WHILE PARENTS ARE ABLE TO WORK OR GO TO SCHOOL. THE CENTERS FOCUS ON SCHOOL READINESS AND AGE-APPROPRIATE EXPERIENCES TO PREPARE THE CHILDREN FOR THEIR FUTURE. THE YWCA PROVIDES FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO 69 CHILDREN WHOSE PARENTS INCOME QUALIFIES AND WOULD NOT OTHERWISE BE ABLE TO AFFORD QUALITY CHILDCARE. THE YWCA HOSTS A SUMMER DAY CAMP FOR SCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN. OVER THE DURATION OF THE SUMMER, APPROXIMATELY FORTY CHILDREN ATTENDED THE PROGRAM ALLOWING PARENTS TO CONTINUE WORKING OR ATTENDING SCHOOL, KNOWING THEIR CHILDREN WERE IN A SAFE, NURTURING ENVIRONMENT AND PARTICIPATING IN AGE-APPROPRIATE ACTIVITIES.

THE MISSION OF THE YWCA CENTER FOR FAMILIES AND CHILDREN IS TO LEAD OUR COMMUNITY IN HEALING ITSELF FROM THE EFFECT OF FAMILY VIOLENCE BY ESTABLISHING AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE COMMITTED PROFESSIONALS WORK COLLABORATIVELY USING LEADING EDGE APPROACHES, TECHNOLOGY AND TECHNIQUES TO PROVIDE INTEGRATED, COMPREHENSIVE SERVICES TO PEOPLE WHERE AND WHEN THEY NEED HELP. PARTNER AGENCIES INCLUDE THE ROCK SPRINGS AND GREEN RIVER POLICE DEPARTMENTS, THE DEPARTMENT OF FAMILYSERVICES, THE SWEETWATER COUNTY ATTORNEY'S OFFICE, THE SWEETWATER COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE, WYOMING HIGHWAY PATROL, WYOMING WORKFORCE SERVICES, MEMORIAL HOSPITAL OF SWEETWATER COUNTY, SOUTHWEST COUNSELING SERVICES AND LEGAL AID OF WYOMING. THESE AGENCIES COMBINE TO OFFER SERVICES FOR CLIENTS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING ANY TYPE OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, SEXUAL ASSAULT, STALKING, CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE, HUMAN TRAFFICKING, DATING VIOLENCE, CHILD ABUSE OR NEGLECT, AND ELDER ABUSE OR NEGLECT. THE PROGRAM HAS TWO OFFICES, ONE LOCATED IN ROCK SPRINGS AND ONE IN GREEN RIVER, AND AN EMERGENCY SHELTER THAT PROVIDES SAFE, TEMPORARY SHELTER FOR VICTIMS IN NEED. THE SHELTER IS PET FRIENDLY, ALLOWING VICTIMS TO BRING IN THEIR DOG/CAT TO ENSURE THE ANIMAL'S SAFETY AS WELL. THE PROGRAM PROVIDES A TWENTY-FOUR HOUR CRISIS LINE AND ADVOCATES THAT ARE AVAILABLE TO VICTIMS OF THESE CRIMES IN AND AROUND SWEETWATER COUNTY. ADVOCATES TAKE CRISIS CALLS BY PHONE OR MAY RESPONDTO THE HOSPITAL, LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES OR OTHER COUNTY AGENCIES TO PROVIDE IMMEDIATE CRISIS INTERVENTION SERVICES. ADVOCATES ALSO RESPOND TO CALLS FROM LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT REQUESTING AN ADVOCATE TO RESPOND TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VICTIMS' HOMES. VICTIMS ARE ABLE TO HAVE THEIR QUESTIONS ANSWERED AND SERVICES OFFERED IMMEDIATELY. ADVOCATES MAY ALSO WORK WITH CHILDREN WHO ARE PRESENT AND HAVE WITNESSED VIOLENCE IN THEIR HOME. THE PROGRAM PROVIDED 19,428 SERVICES TO 394 INDIVIDUALS IN 2018. THERE WERE 1,345 CRISIS CALLS AND 1,254 SHELTER NIGHTS PROVIDED.

THE FINANCIAL EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM HAS BEEN IN PLACE FOR MORE THAN FOUR YEARS. THE 2018-2019 FISCAL YEAR SERVED 52 CLIENTS, OF WHICH 25% WERE SINGLE WOMEN WITH CHILDREN HOUSEHOLDS. ADDITIONALLY, 55% OF CLIENTS HAD A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR GED, 15% WERE HISPANIC, 14% HAD A DISABILITY, 9% WERE HOMELESS, AND 88% WERE WOMEN. EACH PARTICIPANT IS PROVIDED WITH A WORKBOOK TO FOLLOW ALONG WITH THROUGHOUT THE COURSE. THIS WORKBOOK TEACHES PARTICIPANTS HOW TO BUDGET, BOTH IMMEDIATELY AND IN THE LONG TERM.
