Organizations Filed Purposes:
THE WYOMING WILDERNESS ASSOCIATION WORKS TO PROTECT WYOMING'S PUBLIC WILD LANDS TO ENSURE A FUTURE OF WILD PLACES FOR PEOPLE AND WILDLIFE.
THE WYOMING WILDERNESS ASSOCIATION (WWA) HAD FOUR MAJOR PUBLIC LANDS CAMPAIGNS IN 2019. BRIDGER-TETON, SHOSHONE, BIGHORN NATIONAL FOREST, AND THE BLM'S RED DESERT WERE LANDSCAPES OF FOCUS IN 2019. THESE CAMPAIGNS INVOLVED EDUCATING OUR MEMBERS, THE GENERAL PUBLIC, SCHOOL GROUPS, BUSINESSES, DIVERSE ORGANIZATIONS, AND ELECTED OFFICIALS ON THE FUTURE OF THESE WILD PLACES AND CURRENT MANAGEMENT DISCUSSIONS. WWA GAVE PRESENTATIONS ON THE VALUE OF THESE WILDERNESS AREAS TO AFORMENTIONED GROUPS, INCLUDING TEACHING ABOUT THE HISTORY AND ECOLOGY AND THE IMPORTANCE OF PRESERVING THIS WILD HERITAGE FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS. WWA STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS ATTENDED AND TABLED AT LOCAL FAIRS, FILM FESTIVALS, FARMERS' MARKETS, AND CONFERENCES TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ON WYOMING'S UNPROTECTED WILD ROADLESS LANDS. CONCERNED CITIZENS PRODUCED LETTERS TO THE EDITOR BASED ON OUR EDUCATIONAL EFFORTS AND OUTREACH THROUGH PRINTED AND DISTRIBUTED MATERIALS, SUCH AS ALERTS, BROCHURES, BUSINESS PACKETS, NEWSLETTERS, AND OTHER PUBLICATIONS. IN ADDITION, WE INFORMED THE PUBLIC THROUGH OUR OUTINGS, WEBSITE, SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS, AND EMAIL SYSTEM. WHILE SERVING TO PROTECT WYOMING'S PUBLIC WILDLANDS, WWA STAFF, MEMBERS, AND SUPPORTERS VOLUNTEERED IN MANY STEWARDSHIP PROJECTS ON NATIONAL FOREST AND BLM LANDS.
IN 2019, WWA HAD 603 PARTICIPANTS ON 65 TOTAL DIFFERENT OUTINGS ACROSS THE STATE. THIRTY THREE OUTINGS HAD A STEWARDSHIP COMPONENT, TWENTY OUTINGS WERE SPECIFIC TO YOUTH EDUCATION, AND 12 EDUCATIONAL OUTINGS LED YOUTH AND ADULTS ALIKE INTO AN INCREDIBLE ARRAY OF LANDSCAPES BOASTING ECOLOGICAL DIVERSITY, WILDLIFE MIGRATION CORRIDORS, AND NOT YOUR AVERAGE "ROCK AND ICE" POTENTIAL WILDERNESS.
IN 2019, WWA CONTINUED TO ELEVATE THE STEWARDSHIP PILLAR OF OUR MISSION. OVER 200 PARTICIPANTS AND 1,555 VOLUNTEER HOURS ALLOWED US TO: CONDUCT SOLITUDE MONITORING PROJECTS IN DESIGNATED WILDERNESS, PROMOTE YOUTH ADVOCACY, CONDUCT CAMPSITE MONITORING, CLEAN FIRE RINGS, FIX TRAILS, HELP BUILD A XC SKI TRAIL, REMOVE GRAFFITI AND TRASH FROM OUR WILD TONGUE RIVER CAVE (55LBS INCLUDING 15LBS OF GLASS), LEAD WILDERNESS TRAIL CONDITION SURVEYS, AND SUCCESSFULLY PULL OFF "RUN THE RED". TWENTY OUTREACH EVENTS INCLUDED: BACKCOUNTRY FILM FESTIVALS, BANFF MOUNTAIN FILM FESTIVAL, "RUN THE RED" ON WYOMING'S FIRST PUBLIC LANDS DAY, MINI-ART AUCTION CELEBRATING PUBLIC LANDS, AND SEVERAL COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS AROUND CONSERVATION OUTREACH AND EDUCATION.
