Organizations Filed Purposes: To preserve & protect buildings & sites of historic interest in Lancaster County, SC; to advance historic preservation as an instrument of economic and social revitalization of neighborhoods in Lancaster County; to acquire & protect historic spots and places in Lancaster County; to promote and encourage research on the history of Lancaster County; and to foster and promote public knowledge of and interest in local and regional history. The Society is responsible for the preservation and operation of the Lancaster Cultural Arts Center (originally the 1862 Old Presbyterian Church) at 307 West Gay Street in Lancaster, SC, the purpose of which is to promote and make accessible the visual and performing arts and educational programs (historical and otherwise) that inform and challenge the mind while bringing joy and entertainment. The Society also preserves & operates the historic Old Presbyterian Church Cemetery adjacent to the Cultural Arts Center.

Restoration of and additions to the Lancaster Cultural Arts Center, 307 West Gay St., Lancaster, SC. In 2020 we carried out and completed major additions to the historic structure, which provide it all the modern facilities needed for its function. Restoration of the historic interior of the 1862 structure continued. The grand reopening of the Center took place on November 5, 2020, and more than 1,000 attended events at the Center during the year, even with COVID and construction limitations.

Preservation & maintenance of the historic Old Presbyterian Church Cemetery adjacent to the Lancaster Cultural Arts Center. Historic monuments going back to the 1830s have been restored and more than 1,000 people visit the Cemetery annually, to conduct genealogical and historic research, or as tourists. Springs Cotton Industries founder Leroy Springs (1861-1931) was re-interred in the Cemetery (an undertaking which involved discovery and removal of the casket from an abandoned site) and a distinguished monument recording his major role in the development of Lancaster was erected on the new burial site in 2020.

Organizing and financing cultural events (classical music, jazz, and other musical concerts), performing arts events, public ceremonies and civic leadership functions at the Cultural Arts Center. More than 1,200 people attended events or toured the Center in 2020. Classical music concerts feature performances by nationally recognized professional musicians each year. Events are underwritten by private donors.
