PROVIDES ASSISTANCE TO NATIVE AMERICANS ON THE NAVAJO NATION.
REZ REFUGE 2019 OBJECTIVES & GOALS THESE WERE ESTABLISHED GOING INTO THE 2019 FISCAL YEAR, FROM THE 2018 YEAR END REPORT. OUR ULTIMATE GOAL WAS TO INSPIRE DEVELOPMENT IN OUR COMMUNITY MEMBERS; IN HOPES THAT THEY WILL PROSPER AND CONTRIBUTE TO THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD, SO WE CAN ENSURE A POSITIVE IMPACT FOR OUR FUTURE. THROUGHOUT THE YEAR WE HAD VARIOUS OPPORTUNITIES TO EXPOSE PARTICIPANTS OF OUR PROGRAMS TO NEW AND EXCITING ACTIVITIES. BIONEERS ON AN INTERCULTURAL CONVERSATIONS EXCHANGE - COLLABORATING WITH ALEXIS BUNTEN AND INTERCULTURAL CONVERSATIONS IS AN EDUCATIONAL EXCHANGE BETWEEN NATIVE AMERICAN AND NON-NATIVE YOUTH WHO COME TOGETHER TO DISCUSS CRITICAL ISSUES FACING INDIGENOUS AND ALL PEOPLES. EDUCATORS FROM SCHOOLS AND YOUTH ORGANIZATIONS AROUND THE COUNTRY CO-FACILITATE THE EXPERIENCE ALONGSIDE BIONEERS STAFF. LITTLE FREE LIBRARY PROJECT - PLANNED THE RIBBON CUTTING/ GRAND OPENING CEREMONY TO PLACE A LFL IN OUR YARD ON OCTOBER 12,2019. 10 TOTAL PARTICIPANTS THAT HELPED IN THIS EVENT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. THE LITTLE FREE LIBRARY IS OPEN TO COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND THEY ARE WELCOME TO GIVE AND/OR TAKE A BOOK OF THEIR CHOOSING TO THE SELECTION. 1 HOPI GARDEN REVITALIZATION - 06/17/19; 3 PARTICIPANTS; 1 YOUTH FELLOW; 2 STAFF; PROVIDE GUIDANCE FOR A SMALL NON-PROFIT THAT FOCUSES ON REVIVING THE HOPI YOUTHS INTEREST IN CULTIVATION. COLLABORATING WITH LAND GRANT OFFICE TO HELP REVITALIZE GARDEN FOR RUBY A. CHIMERICA FROM HOTEVILLA- BACAVI, ARIZONA (HOPI VILLAGE). VOLUNTEERS VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AND ACTIVITIES ONSITE AND/OR WITHIN THE COMMUNITY. REZ REFUGE PROVIDED OUTREACH EFFORTS TO VARIOUS GROUPS IN THE AREA AND PROVIDED ASSISTANCE WITH VOLUNTEERS MADE UP OF PARTICIPANTS, PARTICIPANT FAMILIES AND OTHER MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY. THERE WERE A TOTAL OF 175 TEEN VOLUNTEERS, 19 YOUTH VOLUNTEERS, 19 ADULT VOLUNTEERS WITH A TOTAL OF 416 HOURS TOTAL VOLUNTEER HOURS COMBINED. FAMILY PAINT NIGHT WE CONDUCTED A SUCCESSFUL FAMILY PAINT NIGHT LOCATED ONSITE AT OUR OFFICE IN FORT DEFIANCE, ARIZONA. DURING THE TIME GIVEN, PARTICIPANTS AND THEIR FAMILIES WERE ABLE TO ATTEND THE THREE HOUR EVENT AND ENJOY PAINTING, MUSIC AND SNACKS FOR EVERYONE. THERE WERE A TOTAL OF 15 PEOPLE SERVED DURING THIS EVENT. COLLEGE CAMPUS TOURS DURING THE 2019 YEAR, WE TOOK TEENS AGES 14-17 ON 2 COLLEGE CAMPUS TOURS INTENDED TO OPEN PERSPECTIVES OF CONTINUING EDUCATION AFTER HIGH SCHOOL. TEENS WERE ABLE TO GO ON A MULTI-DAY TRIP WITH OTHER PARTICIPANTS TO COLLEGES SUCH AS ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY AND FORT LEWIS COLLEGE.THERE WAS A TOTAL OF 20 TEENS APART OF THE REZ TEENS PROGRAM THAT WERE IN ATTENDANCE DURING THESE TRIPS. SHIPROCK MARATHON THIS YEAR MARKS THE 3RD CONSECUTIVE YEAR THAT WE WERE ABLE TO PROVIDE VOLUNTEERS FOR THE SHIPROCK MARATHON. DURING THIS EVENT WE DIRECTLY ASSISTED IN THE SHIPROCK MARATHON BY MEANS OF PROVIDING STAFF SUPPORT, VAN TRANSPORTATION SERVICES AND OTHER VARIOUS ONSITE TASKS. THIS HELPED PROMOTE OUR ORGANIZATIONS VOLUNTEER AND COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS WITH NEIGHBORING YOUTH DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATIONS.
