Golden Rule Awards Banquet - We have recognized that the Golden Rule is a "Life Principle" that is central to the teaching and scriptures of all the major faiths in the world and many secular organizations. So we have worked to bring Golden Rule awareness in our community and world to a heightened level that we sincerely hope results in peace and harmony in communities around the globe. The Golden Rule banquet provides living examples of the Golden Rule by individuals, businesses, non-profits, places of worship, youth, education, media, sports and more. Just over 900 attendees were at this event. A historic listing of honorees over the years is available via our website at: http://www.azifm.org/golden-rule/golden-rule-awardees-historical-listing
Arizona Golden Rule Educational Experiences (AGREE)- AGREE's mission is to provide educational experiences with high academic standards that implement the Golden Rule with empathy, respect, civility and kindness. AGREEs vision is a world of civility, respect and harmony among all people with the Golden Rule as a standard for conduct.AGREEs purpose is to provide an academic-based curriculum that inspires Gold Standard behavior. While the Golden Rule and Golden Rule awareness and education are embedded in all our events and programs, we have been working over the years to bring about a program entitled AGREE. We see the Golden Rule as a universal principle that is a solution for problems. Awareness and applying the Golden Rule to conflicts and challenges can lead to peace and harmony within our communities and world; thereby transcending the differences of faith, race, culture, nationality, and ethnicity. Phase One was to bring more awareness towards the Golden Rule. We did this via Harkins Theatre ads: a one minute advertisement prior to select movies / theatres around Arizona that features children of different faiths - Baha'i, Buddhist, Christian, Jewish, Islam, Sikh, and Secular - all reciting the Golden Rule from their own faith. Phase Two occurred in 2012, which included writing curriculum with a Golden Rule lesson for all grade levels, tied to Arizona State Standards and Performance Objectives in the subjects of reading, writing, math and social studies, with opportunities for music, drama and art, which are being layered into many activities. In this context the Golden Rule is presented as a universal "Life Principle" free from religious overtones, although it could easily be adapted to include them if the educator wanted to do so. This information is available in detail on our website, www.AzGoldenRule.org. We launched the AGREE program in several schools in fall 2014 and are working to include more schools in 2015, since all feedback has been positive.
"Experience Interfaith" is a community-building event that fosters better understanding and respect among people of diverse faiths, cultures, etc. There one may experience a Sikh Langar (vegetarian dinner prepared by Indian restaurants) and the special significance of this Sikh practice. One is given the opportunity to share their faith perspective during the discussion time and learn from others, thereby helping to clear up religious misconceptions and ignorance that lead to conflict, war, and violence. Details may be found at our website, http://www.azifm.org/events/.
