CALA Alliance Celebracin Artstica de las Amricas is a multidisciplinary Latino arts organization based in Phoenix that collaborates with artists and arts organizations to connect Arizona, Mexico, and Latin America. We advance our mission through innovative public programming, artist commissions, international residencies, and cultural exchanges that reimagine Arizona's place in the Americas.
CALA envisions a cultural landscape that values the creative and artistic contributions of Latinos and latinoamericanos, and critically engages their stories in Arizona and throughout the Americas. CALA achieves its mission through the following programs: a. Crossfade LAB: An event series that presents thought-provoking conversations and performances with internationally known Latino and Latin American artists from Arizona, the United States and Latin America. b. GDLPHX Residencias Artsticas: An artist residency and cultural exchange program organized by CALA, ASU Art Museum and Programa Anual de Open Studios PAOS GDL. It offers fully-sponsored residencies to artists from Guadalajara to travel and work in Phoenix, Arizona, and to Latino artists from Phoenix to travel and work in Guadalajara, Jalisco. Artists develop creative projects and present public programs that establish a dialogue between both cities. c. Artist Residencies: CALA organizes residencies with local, national and international artists. Artists develop site-specific projects in collaboration with Arizona artists and present public programs and community engagements. d. The Crossfade Project: A school residency program that creates spaces for high school students to engage in cultural learning and artistic expression, while gaining a critical understanding of contemporary social issues from the perspectives of Phoenix Latino artists.
