THE CHILDREN'S MUSEUM OF PHOENIX ENGAGES THE MINDS, MUSCLES, AND IMAGINATIONS OF CHILDREN AND THE GROWN-UPS WHO CARE ABOUT THEM. WITH A FOCUS ON EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT FOR CHILDREN BIRTH TO TEN YEARS, THE MUSEUM PROVIDES HANDS-ON EXHIBITS AND PROGRAMS THAT ENCOURAGE PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL, AND COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT. IN ORDER TO MITIGATE THE SPREAD OF COVID-19 THIS YEAR, THE MUSEUM CLOSED ITS DOORS ON MARCH 13 AND REMAINED CLOSED FOR THE REST OF THE FISCAL YEAR. UPON CLOSURE THEY QUICKLY PIVOTED TO OFFERING DAILY ACTIVITIES ON THEIR SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS IN BOTH ENGLISH AND SPANISH REACHING THOUSANDS OF FAMILIES WITH YOUNG CHILDREN, HOSTED A DRIVE-THROUGH GRADUATION PARADE TO CELEBRATE GRADUATING STUDENTS IN A SOCIALLY DISTANCED WAY AND CREATED A VIRTUAL SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM CALLED CAMP IN A BOX WHICH SERVED OVER 200 CHILDREN THIS SUMMER. THE MUSEUM RECEIVED A FORGIVABLE LOAN FROM THE SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION IN THE FORM OF THE PAYCHECK PROTECTION PROGRAM WHICH ALLOWED THE MUSEUM TO RUN THESE PROGRAMS, RETAIN KEY STAFF MEMBERS, AND BRING BACK FURLOUGHED EMPLOYEES. EVEN WITH THE CLOSURE, THE MUSEUM'S "EVERY CHILD" PROGRAM WAS ABLE TO PROVIDE FREE OR REDUCED ADMISSION SERVING MORE THAN 29,000 CHILDREN AND FAMILIES THIS YEAR, IN ADDITION TO FREE ACCESS TO OUR ONLINE CONTENT.
