CHRISTIAN HOUSING-MESA (M4) IS A 65-UNIT HUD SUBSIDIZED APARTMENT DEVELOPMENT FOR VERY-LOW INCOME SENIORS. IN 2003, M4 WON AN AWARD FROM THE ARIZONA ASSOCIATION OF HOMES AND HOUSING FOR THE AGING FOR PIONEERING A PROGRAM TO PROVIDE ASSISTED LIVING (AL) SERVICES IN HUD SUBSIDIZED APARTMENTS. IN 2018, UP TO 47 RESIDENTS RECEIVED AL SERVICES, WHICH INCLUDE 3 MEALS PER DAY, WEEKLY HOUSEKEEPING, LAUNDRY, ACTIVITIES AND 24-HOUR OBSERVATION BY STAFF. IN 2007 M4 WAS AWARDED A $4.1 MILLION ASSISTED LIVING DEVELOPMENT GRANT TO EXPAND WELLNESS AND DINING FACILITIES AND REFURBISH UNITS TO THE LATEST AL STANDARDS. THE AL ADDITION HAD THEIR GRAND OPENING ON 3/17/2010. TODAY 47 RESIDENTS LIVING IN ONE-BEDROOM APARTMENTS ENJOY AGING IN PLACE WITH ASSISTED LIVING SERVICES SPONSORED BY ARIZONA LONG TERM CARE (CON'T SCH O) SYSTEM. THESE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED AT 1/3 THE COST OF SKILLED NURSING SERVICES. EVERY RESIDENT IN THE ASSISTED LIVING PROGRAM MUST FIRST QUALIFY FOR SKILLED NURSING SERVICES. THESE SERVICES ALLOW THE POOREST OF THE POOR TO RECEIVE ASSISTED LIVING SERVICES WITH DIGNITY IN THEIR HOME LOCATED ON THE CHRISTIAN CARE MESA CAMPUS. RESIDENTS HAVE EASY ACCESS TO LOW-COST TRANSPORTATION, CHAPLAINCY SERVICES, BEAUTY SHOP, AND 24-HOUR SECURITY WITH AN EMERGENCY CALL SYSTEM.WE BELIEVE "REGARDLESS OF PAYER SOURCE", SENIORS SHOULD BE ABLE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY. DURING 2019 MANOR 4 ADDED SMART FEATURES TO THE AMENITIES PROVIDED TO RESIDENTS. A GRANT WAS MADE BY AMAZON TO PROVIDE 50 ALEXA DOTS TO THE RESIDENTS. THE DOTS OPERATE ON AN ENTERPRISE LEVEL CAMPUS WI-FI SYSTEM. RESIDENTS DO NOT REQUIRE A SMART PHONE OR TO HAVE AN ACCOUNT WITH AMAZON. NO PRIVATE INFORMATION IS KEPT ON THE SYSTEM. WITHOUT TOUCHING ANY SCREEN RESIDENTS CAN ASK ALEXA WHAT'S FOR LUNCH, WHAT'S ON THE MENU, CALL THE FRONT DESK, SECURITY, FITNESS CENTER, ACTIVITIES, BEAUTY SHOP, KITCHEN, AND FRIENDS. THE ALEXAS PROVIDE RESIDENTS WITH THEIR FAVORITE MUSIC, ADJUST THE VOLUME, IT READS THE BIBLE AND OTHER BOOKS AVAILABLE, PLAYS TED TALKS, COACHES THEM TO DO CHAIR AND BRAIN WORKOUTS, READS THE NEWS, CONTROLS THE THERMOSTAT, IT CHANGES THE TV CHANNELS, IT CAN FIND THEIR FAVORITE TV PROGRAMS AND THE CHANNEL IT IS PLAYING ON, IT CAN CONTROL THE APARTMENT LIGHTS, IT PROVIDES DIRECTIONS TO RESIDENTS FOR THE LOCATION OF THE SWIMMING POOL, WORKOUT CENTER, THE LIBRARY, THE GATHERING PLACE, THE T0-GO WINDOW, CONVENIENCE STORE, THE DATE AND TIME AND LOCATION OF CAMPUS ACTIVITIES. ALEXA ALSO ALLOWS RESIDENTS TO SET TIMERS THAT AUTOMATICALLY NOTIFY RESIDENTS WHEN IT IS TIME TO TAKE THEIR PRESCRIPTIONS, OR GO TO AN EVENT.TO CONSERVE ELECTRICITY AND TO HELP PREVENT FALLS MANOR 4 APPLIED FOR AND RECEIVED A GRANT FROM SALT RIVER PROJECT THE ELECTRIC UTILITY PROVIDER. THE GRANT PROVIDED WI-FI CONTROLLED THERMOSTATS. IN EVERY APARTMENT AND IN ALL COMMON AREAS. ALL RESIDENTS CAN NOW USE THEIR VOICE TO CONTROL THEIR INDIVIDUAL THERMOSTAT WITHOUT HAVING TO GET UP TO ADJUST IT. STAFF CAN ALSO ADJUST THE THERMOSTATS REMOTELY, A FEATURE THAT SAVES TIME AND IMPROVES SERVICE.FOUNDED IN 1979, THE CHRISTIAN CARE COMPANIES BEGAN WITH 96 UNITS OF SUBSIDIZED HOUSING AND A 60-BED NURSING CENTER ON THE PHOENIX CAMPUS.
