Organizations Filed Purposes:
GENERATION JUSTICE WORKS IN LEGISLATURES AND COURTROOMS TO MEND THE BROKEN CHILD PROTECTION SYSTEM AND TO BRING A PERMANENT END TO INNOCENT CHILDREN ENDURING VIOLENCE. IN PARTICULAR, WE SEEK TO REDRESS THE IMBALANCE BETWEEN THE CONSTITUTIONALLY PROTECTED RIGHTS OF THE CRIMINALLY ACCUSED AND THE LESSER STATUTORY RIGHTS OF THEIR CHILD VICTIMS BY STRENGTHENING THE LIFE AND LIBERTY INTERESTS OF CHILD VICTIMS UNDER THE CONSTITUTION.
OUR MISSION IS TO MAKE SURE EVERY CHILD HAS EQUAL PROTECTION UNDER THE LAW.
LEGAL CLINIC: GENERATION JUSTICE ATTORNEYS WORKED IN COURTROOMS ACROSS ARIZONA TO ENSURE THAT LEGAL PROTECTIONS FOR ABANDONED AND ABUSED CHILDREN WERE FRONT AND CENTER BEFORE THE COURTS AND TO ENSURE THAT GOVERNMENT ACTORS COMPLIED WITH THE LAWS. UNLIKE OTHER LITIGATIONS IN AMERICAN COURTS THAT ARE TYPICALLY PUBLIC AND OPEN, CHILD WELFARE HEARINGS ROUTINELY ARE HELD IN THE DARK WITH RECORDS SEALED, PROTECTING PUBLIC AGENCIES FROM OVERSIGHT, ACCOUNTABILITY AND REFORM.
REFORM: RESEARCHED, DEVELOPED, AND ADVANCED PUBLIC POLICY REFORMS TO IMPROVE THE CHILD PROTECTION SYSTEM. THESE REFORMS INCLUDED MAKING SPECIAL EDUCATION SERVICES MORE ACCESSIBLE TO CHILDREN IN FOSTER CARE. GEN JUSTICE ALSO RESEARCHED AND WROTE EXTENSIVELY ABOUT CRISIS-AREAS WITHIN THE FOSTER CARE SYSTEM INCLUDING THE NUMBER OF CHILDREN WHO DISAPPEAR FROM THE FOSTER CARE SYSTEM; THE DISPROPORTIONATE NUMBER OF CHILDREN FROM FOSTER CARE WHO HAVE BEEN TRAFFICKED BY PREDATORS; AND THE PERCENTAGE OF CHILDREN WHO HAVE DIED FROM ABUSE DESPITE HAVING OPEN CASES OR CASE HISTORIES WITH CHILD PROTECTION AUTHORITIES CHARGED WITH THEIR SAFETY.
RESEARCH AND EDUCATION: GENERATION JUSTICE SHARED TIMELY DATA ABOUT THE CHILD PROTECTION SYSTEM WITH A BROAD SECTION OF AMERICANS. OUR RESEARCH AND EDUCATIONAL FINDINGS REACHED MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC BROADLY, POLICYMAKERS INCLUDING ELECTED AND APPOINTED OFFICIALS, AND THOUSANDS OF INDIVIDUALS INVOLVED IN CHILD SERVICES RANGING FROM CASAS AND SOCIAL WORKERS TO CHILDREN, THROUGH MULTIPLE NEWSPAPERS, FACEBOOK, OUR WEBSITE, PHONE CALLS, IN-PERSON MEETINGS, AND DISTRIBUTION BY MAIL AND E-MAIL.
