Organizations Filed Purposes:
To help young people stay in school and to acquire the academic, personal, leadership, and vocational skills they will need to be successful upon graduation.
JAGs Career and College Readiness program served 871 middle school and high school youth and 366 recent graduates, providing an average of 116 hours of service per participant. Programming is delivered as a regularly scheduled, for credit elective class, which creates a reliable support system for JAG students. With a focus on team building and student led activity based learning, the class provides an alternative to the typical classroom experience, while still delivering JAGs competency based work readiness curriculum. In the classroom, JAG students receive instruction on core work readiness competencies designed to ensure successful transition to employment and or post secondary education upon graduation from high school. JAGs core curriculum includes Career development, Job Attainment, Job survival, Leadership and Self development, and Personal skills. Outside of the classroom, all JAG students are members of a student led organization that functions within the classroom, serving as a learning lab for the JAG curriculum. This student led organization often becomes the heart of the program, allowing the students to build relationships with each other and members of their school and community as they work together to plan career exploration and social and community service events.
