Organizations Filed Purposes:
To promote the equality, inclusion and choice of people who have disabilities through collaboration and public policy change.
SILC Council: The Organization or SILC uses the resources provided through the SPIL to, 1) survey the needs of Arizonans who have disabilities; 2) ensure that CILs conduct assessments of consumer satisfaction with independent living programs and services; 3) facilitate community outreach, and independent living education through public forums, workshops, and presentations; 4) collaborate in coordinating independent living conferences, expositions, and summits; and 5) educate, inform, and cultivate systemic changes that enhance and expand independent living programs and services in Arizona.
Part-B (SPIL) Objectives: Every three years, the Organization works with stakeholders which include Centers for Independent Living CIL, state agencies, and other disability service providers to develop the State Plan for Independent Living SPIL. The SPIL includes funding to enhance and expand the effectiveness of the Arizona Independent Living Network. The current SPIL includes goals to identify and impact under and unserved populations in Arizona; engage Arizonans who have disabilities in learning about disability history, culture, and independent living philosphy; educating to address disparities that exist in access to healthcare and emergency and disaster preparedness; and sustaining the Arizona youth leadership initiatives.
Emergency Planning: The Organization promotes individual emergency planning among people who have disabilities by working collaboratively with disability organizations, and with local, county, and state governmental entities, to enhance and expand personal and systemic emergency management practices to include proactive strategies for the health, safety, and wellness of people who have disabilities throughout Arizona.
