The mission of the Sahuarita Unified School District Educational Enrichment Foundation is to enrich educational experiences for teachers, students and residents of the communities of the Sahuarita Unified School District through a variety of education-related programs and services.
POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS:As in the prior year, a major activity of the Sahuarita Unified School District Educational Enrichment Foundation (SEEF) was the distribution of scholarship awards. Karl and Yolanda Hartkopf Memorial Scholarship awards in the amount of $54,719.80 benefitted 7 students continuing to attend college or other post-secondary educational programs. In addition to Hartkopf scholarships, funds in the amount of $26,086.12 were distributed to both students continuing in college or starting their freshman year after graduating from one of the districts high schools. Thus, a total of 10 students were awarded scholarships during the fiscal year that totaled $80,805.92.
TEACHER ASSISTANT PROGRAM:Teacher assistance in the amount of $14,979.34 was provided through the Teacher Mini-grant for creative and educational classroom projects; 34 teachers benefitted from this program. In addition, four teachers received $250 awards to offset expenses for workshops and other learning experiences required to gain eligibility for National Board certification. To achieve certification, teachers must participate in a rigorous program designed to promote excellence in teaching. Further they must demonstrate standards-based evidence of the positive effect they have on student learning in alignment with five key propositions. Teachers must exhibit a deep understanding of their students, content knowledge, use of data and assessments and teaching practice. They must also show that they participate in learning communities and provide evidence of ongoing reflection and continuous learning.
LEARNING INVOLVES NURTURING OF KIDS (L.I.N.K.) PROGRAM:L.I.N.K. Program is a licensed childcare program that offers before school care at the Sahuarita Primary and Sahuarita Intermediate Schools campus, after school care from dismissal time until 5:30pm, and an all-day child-care program for children aged 4 years from 6:30 am to 5:30 pm. A full-day summer program is also offered, and those hours are from 6:30 am to 5:30 pm. The mission of LINK is to provide quality childcare at an affordable price to as many families as possible in our community in need of childcare. LINK strives to create a safe and welcoming environment with learning experiences for all students. About 400 students were served in the past year, but this program too was essentially closed at the end of March although some online activities were continued. SEEFs expenditures for L.I.N.K. during the past fiscal year were $9,820.23. About one-fifth of the funds were used to provide students several fitness classes each month; a similar portion of funds were spent on special outings for the children and sometimes family members. Other major expenses were for renewal of state licensing of the program and the supplies used for daily activities and special projects.
