Conservation & Restoration of Antelope & their Habitat in Arizona. Conservation projects intended to protect, enhance, improve and connect viable & critical antelope habitat in Arizona
The organization auctioned off the Arizona Game & Fish Commissioner tags for Pronghorn Antelope. The auction is held at a fundraising event such as those held by the Rocky Mtn Elk Foundation, Foundation for North American Wild Sheep (FNAWS), etc., the proceeds from the auction of these tags are then transferred 100% back to the State Agency (i.e. - Arizona Game & Fish Department), which then use the funds for habitat improvement projects and the management of the species.
Various Antelope Habitat projects in Arizona including fence modification along highways to help alleviate choke points, clearing of brush to help view of motorist & pronghorn to save lives of both motorist & pronghorn. Fence modiciation on 108,000 in southern AZ to open up unoccupied & unused habitat due to pioneer fencing methods to date 103,000 acres of 108,000 have been opened up allow pronghorn freedom to roam, migrate to historic fawning grounds, migrate during periods of drought, etc. Also extensive grasslands restoration & removal of invasive species into grassland habitats.
Other Major Program accompishments including the publishing of the quarterly journal - PRONGHORN which is a journal about grassland habitats & antelope use and behavior in that habitat. The articles are written predominately by wildlife and rangeland experts from the Arizona Game & Fish Department, Forest Service, BLM, etc., or University Professors and Retired Game & Fish Biologist and Habitat Specialist.
