The mission of notMYkid is to empower and educate youth, families, and communities with the knowledge and courage to identify and prevent negative youth behavior.
notMYkid is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides children and families with truly lifesaving programs, support, resources, and education. Our mission for the past two decades has been to empower and educate youth, families, and communities with the knowledge and courage to identify and prevent negative youth behavior. Our impact is far reaching. To date, we have served over 2 million individuals and reached 58,000 youth and adults through community and school-based programs during this fiscal year. With the arrival of a global pandemic, it was not business as usual and all notMYkid programs transitioned to virtual platforms to meet the growing mental health challenges and needs of families. The pandemic led to the cancelation of our largest fundraiser of the year that funded prevention programs for Title I schools. The staff and Board pivoted programs and fundraising efforts to ensure we could continue services amidst a historic wave of mental health issues impacting our youth.
notMYkid offers social and emotional skill building workshops and peer mentoring for youth during the summer months. Our peer led workshops aim to build resilience and critical life skills. 2019 was the final summer for leadership camps. New peer-led support programs and behavioral health services are in development in response to the pandemic.
notMYkid's prevention and early intervention programs are dedicated to helping youth and families overcome challenges during their most vulnerable years. Our programs are delivered by highly-skilled peers who serve as prevention specialists in schools, community organizations, at the workplace, online, and direct to devices via our Podcasts. The prevention and wellness topics we focus on include substance use, vaping, stress and anxiety, bullying, relationships, body image, depression/self-injury/suicide, and internet safety. notMYkid works to educate and provide coping skills to young people on a range of issues that preteens and teens face every day. With a goal to inspire positive life choices, notMYkid strives to build students' knowledge and social/emotional competencies to enhance resiliency, confidence, and character. We make it a priority to educate students and families on where to go and how to ask for help if they or someone they know is struggling with a mental or behavioral health issue. This year, over 1,200 presentations reached over 40,000 youth and 16,800 adults.
