COMMUNITY OUTREACH SUPPORTS 650+ LOW INCOME, DISABLED, AT-RISK AND TITLE 1 STUDENTS. USING ANIMAL ASSISTED INTERVENTION (AAI), WE PROVIDE WEEKLY READING, LITERACY, AND LIFE SKILLS PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN AT TITLE 1 SCHOOLS, BOOKSTORES AND PUBLIC LIBRARY. EARLY LITERACY IS PROVIDED FOR CHILDREN AS YOUNG AS THREE. READING, COMPREHENSION AND RETENTION PROGRAMS WITH STUDENTS (3-22) IMPROVE THEIR SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT AND ACADEMIC SKILLS. SUMMER CAMP IS AN INTERACTIVE EIGHT WEEK PROGRAM FOR ABOUT 40 CHILDREN (AGES 10-12) EACH SUMMER CHILDREN OF ALL ABILITIES LEARN THE BASICS ABOUT ASSISTANCE DOGS. KIDS BRING THEIR OWN DOGS TO CAMP TEACHING BASIC OBEDIENCE, THEREBY MAKING THEIR OWN DOGS A BETTER CITIZEN. KIDS LEARN HOW DOGS AND PEOPLE LEARN, PROCESS NEW INFORMATION, DEVELOP AND REFINE NEW SKILLS. KIDS LEARN THE SOCIOLOGY OF DOGS AND PEOPLE

PLACEMENT. POWER PAWS TRAINS AND MATCHES ASSISTANCE DOGS FOR DISABLED CHILDREN AND ADULTS, PEOPLE WITH TYPE 1 DIABETES, MOBILITY CHALLENGES, POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER AND FACILITY DOGS. OUR PLEDGE IS TO TEACH EACH RECIPIENT TO MASTER SPECIALIZED TRAINING CONCEPTS SO THE SUPPORT OF POWER PAWS DOGS CAN ENHANCE THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE. THROUGH INCREASED ENGAGEMENT, EACH CANINE HELPS CLIENTS INCREASE THEIR ENGAGEMENT IN SOCIAL ACTIVITIES. IN ADDITION, A POWER PAWS DOG PROVIDES EMOTIONAL SUPPORT AS CLIENTS BUILD THEIR INDEPENDENT ABILITIES TO SUPPORT THEIR HEALTH CHALLENGE.

VOLUNTEERISM. THROUGH SPECIAL PARTNERSHIPS WITH CORPORATIONS AND COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS, DOGS ARE FOSTERED THROUGH ASSISTANCE DOG PLACEMENT PROGRAM. ARIZONA GOVERNOR'S POINTS OF LIGHT - SOCIAL ENTERPRISE INITIATIVE PROGRAM. STAFF AND SELECT GROUP OF VOLUNTEERS COMPLETED AN ARDUOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING PROCESS TO REVIEW AND IMPROVE POWER PAW'S VOLUNTEER PROGRAM. POWER PAWS WILL PREPARE FOR CERTIFICATION OF ITS VOLUNTEER PROGRAM IN 2020 BY THE GOVERNOR'S COMMISSION ON SERVICE AND VOLUNTEERISM. CERTIFICATION BY THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE WILL GIVE POWER PAWS VOLUNTEER PROGRAM VISIBILITY AT A NATIONAL LEVEL. POWER PAWS RECEIVED $70,000 IN GRANTS TO SET UP ITS NEW VOLUNTEER PROGRAM AND FUND A DEDICATED VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR (NEW POSITION) THRU 2021.
