Organizations Filed Purposes: SFAZ'S MISSION IS TO DIVERSIFY ARIZONA'S ECONOMY BY INVESTING IN SCIENTIFIC AND ENGINEERING RESEARCH LINKED TO INDUSTRY NEEDS AND INVESTING IN EDUCATION TO CREATE A WORK FORCE WITH 21ST CENTURY SKILLS.

STEM EDUCATION SUPPORTS PROGRAMS IN THE K-12 AND COMMUNITY COLLEGES THAT IMPROVE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT, TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND LINK INDUSTRY TO CLASSROOM NEEDS. PROGRAMS FUNDED ARE FOCUSED ON HANDS-ON, INTERACTIVE LEARNING THAT PROVIDE CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS TO STUDENTS. SOME PROGRAMS ARE DESIGNED TO CREATE STUDENT INTEREST AND ENTHUSIASM FOR STEM CAREERS, BETTER PREPARE THEM IN MATH AND SCIENCE, AND OFFER EARLY COLLEGE INDUSTRY-DRIVEN LEARNING EXPERIENCES THAT RESULT IN CERTIFICATIONS, AND TWO- AND FOUR-YEAR DEGREES IN STEM FIELDS. AWARDED 235 GRANTS, INCLUDING FUNDING 182 AFTER SCHOOL STEM CLUBS, 25 COMPUTER/SCIENCE LABS AND 22 PATHWAY GRANTS. IN ADDITION, SFAZ CONTINUED OVERSIGHT OF 12 EDUCATION GRANTS; ONE OF WHICH SUPPORTS ENGINEERING PATHWAYS DESIGNED TO EXPAND ENGINEERING AND APPLIED TECHNOLOGY PROGRAMS AND BROADEN K-12 OUTREACH. SFAZ CONTINUES THE EXPANSION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THE ARIZONA STEM NETWORK, COLLABORATION OF BUSINESS, EDUCATORS, GOVERNMENT AND PHILANTHROPY TO GRADUATE MORE STUDENTS PREPARED FOR A 21ST CENTURY EDUCATION THROUGH STEM.

THE BISGROVE SCHOLARS PROGRAM WAS INITIATED TO ATTRACT AND SUPPORT EXCEPTIONALLY TALENTED POST DOCTORAL AND EARLY TENURE TRACK FACULTY IN ARIZONA IN SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING FROM ACROSS THE WORLD WHO HAVE DEMONSTRATED EXTRAORDINARY POTENTIAL IN THEIR FIELD. IN 2019 SFAZ CONTINUED THE OVERSIGHT OF 7 EXISTING SCHOLARS. SINCE THE PROGRAM INCEPTION 23 SCHOLARS HAVE BEEN SELECTED.

SFAZ'S GRADUATE RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM HELPS ATTRACT TOP SCHOLARS TO ARIZONA UNIVERSITIES, BY ENHANCING STATE UNIVERSITIES' ABILITY TO RECRUIT AND SUPPORT TALENTED STUDENTS FROM NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL APPLICANT POOLS. THIS THEN CONTRIBUTES TO THE VITALITY OF ARIZONA'S SCIENTIST AND ENGINEER BASE, AS THE FELLOWS AUTHOR AND COAUTHOR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH PAPERS AND PATENT SUBMISSIONS, ARE FAST-TRACKED INTO ARIZONA TECHNOLOGY JOBS, AND ENGAGE IN K-12 EDUCATION IN HIGH-NEEDS, INNER CITY AND RURAL ARIZONA SCHOOLS.
