MAINSTAGE PRODUCTIONS: THE ANNUAL MAINSTAGE SEASON, SEPTEMBER THROUGH MAY, FEATURES A CORE OF 6 THEATRE PRODUCTIONS WITH ADDITIONAL OFFERINGS OF PRODUCED AND PRESENTED WORKS. ATC IS THE ONLY MEMBER OF THE LEAGUE OF RESIDENT THEATRES (THE ORGANIZATION OF PROFESSIONAL PRODUCING REGIONAL THEATRES) THAT OPERATES SERVING TWO CITIES. EACH SEASON, MORE THAN 110,000 PEOPLE ATTEND PERFORMANCES AT THE TEMPLE OF MUSIC AND ARTS IN TUCSON AND THE HERBERGER THEATER CENTER IN PHOENIX. ATC PROVIDES AUDIENCES THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE WITHIN A SEASON THE MANY FORMS BY WHICH THEATRE TELLS STORIES. THEATRE ARTISTS OF THE HIGHEST CALIBER FROM ARIZONA AND ACROSS THE COUNTRY CREATE THESE WORKS IN ARIZONA, SPECIFICALLY FOR ARIZONA AUDIENCES, ENSURING THAT THE CITIZENS OF ARIZONA ARE ACTIVE PARTICIPANTS IN THE NATIONAL THEATRE LANDSCAPE.

NEW PLAY DEVELOPMENT: UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF THE PLAYWRIGHT IN-RESIDENCE, ELAINE ROMERO, OUR NATIONAL LATINO PLAYWRITING AWARD (NLPA) CELEBRATES ITS TWENTY-THIRD YEAR, HAVING HONORED A DISTINGUISHED ROSTER OF NORTH AMERICA'S OUTSTANDING LATINX PLAYWRIGHTS. A DIVERSE PANEL OF JUDGES AND THE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR SELECT A WINNER FROM AN INTERNATIONAL POOL OF SUBMISSIONS, INCLUDING ENTRIES FROM ACROSS THE U.S., ITS TERRITORIES, AND MEXICO. NLPA WINNERS HAVE BEEN PRODUCED AND PRESENTED AT ATC, INCLUDING THE RIVER BRIDE (2017-2018 SEASON).

EDUCATION OUTREACH: ATC EDUCATION PROGRAMS REACH OVER 20,000 INDIVIDUALS EACH YEAR AND ARE STRATEGICALLY DESIGNED TO PLACE THEATRE ARTS IN VARIOUS SECTORS OF THE POPULATION WITH THE INTENT OF SERVING YOUTH AND ADULTS WHO ARE REFLECTIVE OF ARIZONA'S ETHNIC AND ECONOMIC DIVERSITY. THE STUDENT MATINEES SERIES IS THE ORIGINATING CORE OF THE STUDENT PROGRAMMING AND PROVIDES THE FIRST TOUCHPOINT FOR YOUTH TO EXPERIENCE LIVE PROFESSIONAL THEATRE. WE CONTINUE THE CONNECTION WITH THE ARTS STRIVING TO INTEGRATE THE VALUES AND COMPETENCIES INTO THEIR CURRICULA LEARNING IN THE CLASSROOM. WE TRAVEL WITH TEACHING ARTISTS TO SCHOOLS WHO ARE TOO FAR AWAY TO PARTICIPATE IN THE STUDENT MATINEE PROGRAM. ALL OF OUR IN-SCHOOL RESIDENCY PROGRAMS EXPLORE A LITERARY, HISTORICAL OR SOCIOLOGICAL THEME THROUGH THE STUDY OF THEATRE ARTS AND THE WORKS OF SHAKESPEARE. WE WORK WITH DIVERSE STUDENT POPULATIONS HELPING TO IMPROVE ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS SKILLS SUCH AS READING COMPREHENSION AND WRITING. EACH PROGRAM IS A PLATFORM FOR ARTISTIC PROJECTS AND CREATIVITY, HELPING STUDENTS BECOME MORE COLLABORATIVE AND CHALLENGING THEM TO BE CRITICAL THINKERS. REVITALIZED STRATEGIC APPROACHES IN PROGRAM DELIVERY HAVE ALLOWED FOR AN ENHANCED AND EXPANDED FOCUS ON OUR EDUCATION INITIATIVE, THEATRE ON THE GO, SERVING ARIZONA'S URBAN AND RURAL COMMUNITIES. SUMMER ON STAGE/SUMMER BACKSTAGE PUTS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN THE DRIVING SEAT OF CREATING WORK OF PROFESSIONAL THEATER STANDARDS, FROM DESIGNING AND BUILDING SETS AND PROPS TO LEARNING CHOREOGRAPHY AND SHAKESPEAREAN VERSE, BEING INVOLVED IN MARKETING AND MESSAGING, AND CULMINATING ON STAGE WITH TWO FULLY PRODUCED PRODUCTIONS. MY SHAKESPEARE WORKSHOPS CONNECT STUDENTS TO THE VOICE OF SHAKESPEARE USING SPECIFICALLY TAILORED PROGRAMS TO SUPPORT THE PROCESS OF DEVELOPING AND PRESENTING A SCHOOL SHAKESPEARE PRODUCTION. OUR NEWEST PROGRAM ATC TEEN ALLOWS ALUMNI OF THE SUMMER ON STAGE PROGRAM TO USE ATC'S FACILITIES AND ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT TO CREATE THEIR OWN PROGRAMMATIC ACTIVITIES DURING THE YEAR, ESSENTIALLY BEING IN CONTROL OF THEIR OWN CREATION OF WORK.
