The Greater Tucson Fire Foundation is dedicated to ASSISTING THE Greater Tucson fire community with funding, tools, technology, advanced training, equipment, survivors' HELP, public education campaigns and human services to support these brave men and women AS THEY serve and protect the citizens of the greater Tucson area.
Assess and respond to unmet needs of the greater Tucson firefighter community by facilitating access to health and wellness resources, while recognizing the firefighting heritage and culture.
THE FIRE FOUNDATION'S MAIN FOCUS REMAINS ON THE THREE MAIN KILLERS OF FIREFIGHTERS: CARDIAC, CANCER AND MENTAL HEALTH. NFPA reports 40% of on duty firefighter deaths are cardiac related. Cancer ultimately kills more firefighters every year. More firefighters take their own lives than are killed battling fire across the country, access to qualified mental health remains a priority for the fire foundation.The foundation funded 235 counseling sessions for firefighters and their families and continued to work on addressing the stigma associated with asking for help. Families being included in this coverage make the GTFF unique in the nation.The fire foundation received an offer of a challenge grant to match up to $20,000 for firefighter mental health programming. $22,000 was raised under that challenge grant.
