Organizations Filed Purposes:
SARSEFs mission is to create Arizonas future critical thinkers and problem solvers through science and engineering.
Education & Outreach- PreK-High School Students, Teachers & Parents:Hands-on workshops for parents, teachers & students at schools identify real-life problems & empower students to investigate solutions through science & engineering; Provided at 87 schools throughout Southern Arizona during the 2018-2019 school year- 45% of which were low income (Title 1); Directly impacted 40,435 students, 745 parents, 960 teachers. SARSEF Science and Engineering Fair: Students from across Southern Arizona compete to qualify for the fair- the top 15% qualify; 95% of competitors felt encouraged to ask more questions or solve more problems in the future; 84% said it encouraged them to think about a STEM major or career; Future Innovator Night drew 4,000 visitors including students families & the public. The top ten students from the fair move on to international levels to compete with students from over 80 countries with SARSEFs success rate four times the national average.
Arizona STEM Adventure- 4th-8th Grade Students and Teachers:996 students from 30 schools spent the day exploring science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) exhibits while their teachers attended a professional development workshop; 37 organizations provided hands-on STEM activities with the help of 245 volunteers; teachers received professional development on incorporating STEM into their lesson plans and each teacher received over $100 worth of supplies.
ACES Camp- Middle School Students:Week-long science camp for middle school girls emphasizing career and college exploration; 40 campers from low income (Title 1) schools; camp included field trips to local STEM companies and labs as well as hands-on activities and professional speakers.
