CONSERVATIONPRIMARY ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF TUCSON AUDUBON'S CONSERVATION PROGRAMS IN 2019 INCLUDED:1. THE LUCY'S WARBLER NESTBOX PROJECT INSTALLED 2,600+ NESTBOXES ACROSS SOUTHEAST AZ AND SUCCESSFULLY HATCHED AND FLEDGED 305-380 CHICKS OF THIS VULNERABLE SPECIES; 145+ SCHOOL CHILDREN AT OCHOA ELEMENTARY BUILT AND TOOK HOME LUCY'S WARBLER NESTBOXES. 2. OUR ADVOCACY PROGRAM MET WITH 7 STATE LEGISLATORS, 3 US REPRESENTATIVES AND 2 US SENATORS; SENT 300+ ISSUE POSTCARDS TO DECISION MAKERS; SUBMITTED COMMENTS AND LETTERS ON OVER 20 CONSERVATION ISSUES; HELPED TO BRING OVER 400 PEOPLE TO PHOENIX FOR ENVIRONMENTAL DAY AT THE CAPITAL.3. OUR IMPORTANT BIRD AREAS PROGRAM CONDUCTED SURVEYS FOR 7 PRIORITY SPECIES AND DEDICATED TWO NEW OFFICIAL IMPORTANT BIRD AREA LOCATIONS; WE ALSO ENTERED A NEW PHASE OF INTEGRATING TECHNOLOGY INTO BIRDS SURVEYS, INCLUDING SOUND RECORDER ACOUSTICS, LIVE STREAM, AND MOTION ACTIVATED CAMERAS.

RESTORATION PRIMARY ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF TUCSON AUDUBON'S RESTORATION PROGRAM IN 2019 INCLUDED: 1. OUR RESTORATION PROGRAM CONTINUED INTENSIVE HABITAT RESTORATION CARE FOR 300+ ACRES OF LAND AT 6 SITES AND IS ACTIVELY RESTORTING 5 ACRES OF RIPARIAN HABITAT AT THE PATON CENTER FOR HUMMINGBIRDS AS WELL AS CONTINUING HABITAT RESTORATION EFFORTS ALONG SONOITA CREEK, A SENSITIVE TRIBUTARY OF THE SANTA CRUZ RIVER.2. CONTINUED RESTORATION EFFORTS AT A VARIETY OF SITES THROUGHOUT SOUTHEAST ARIZONA,INCLUDING THE PLANTING OF AN ADDITIONAL 800-PLUS NATIVE PLANTS TO BENEFIT BIRDS AND WILDLIFE.

PATON CENTER FOR HUMMINGBIRDS THE PATON CENTER WELCOMED 15,000+ WILDLIFE WATCHERS FROM ALL 50 STATES AND 17 FOREIGN COUNTRIES; RECORDED 179 BIRD SPECIES; ADDED 215 ENDANGERED GILA TOP MINNOWS TO OUR REFUGIA STREAM AND POND; INCREASED THE SIZE OF THE SITE BY ADDING 5 ACRES OF RIPARIAN HABITAT, KNOWN AS THE CUCKOO CORRIDOR; AND ENGAGED THE PATON PROJECT TEAM TO BEGIN DESIGNING CAPITAL PROJECT OVERHAUL OF PRIMARY BUILDING AND SITE.
