The Tucson Festival of Books brings together authors, publishers and the reading public in a family-friendly community event. Net proceeds of the festival are used to promote literacy in Southern Arizona.
The 12th annual Tucson Festival of Books was canceled in March of 2020 due to the pandemic. Normally, authors, exhibitors and book lovers of all kinds attend the festival which in past years has attracted approximately 140,000 people to the UA campus. This year due to the cancellation, the festival only raised $20,000 to advance literacy and education in Southern Arizona. Before the decision was made to cancel, major partners in presenting the festival included the University of Arizona, the Arizona Daily Star, Tucson Medical Center, The Stocker Foundation, The Western National Parks Association, The Marshall Foundation and the William and Mary Ross Foundation.
