ESTABLISHED IN 1998, TWC CELEBRATED 21 YEARS OF OPERATION, OFFERING SERVICES TO TUCSON AND ALL EIGHT RURAL COUNTIES OF SOUTHERN ARIZONA FREE OF CHARGE, 24/7, 365 DAYS A YEAR, WITH STAFF WILDLIFE VETERINARIANS ON CALL 27/7.TWC PROVIDED EMERGENCY MEDICAL AND REHABILITATIVE CARE FOR 4,060 SICK, INJURED, AND ORPHANED WILDLIFE RESCUED BY TWC STAFF, AND/OR RESCUED AND BROUGHT TO TWC BY THE PUBLIC, A THOUSAND ABOVE THE TOTAL NUMBER WILDLIFE TREATED IN 2018.AFTER AN 8-MONTH REVIEW PROCESS THAT INCLUDED A SITE VISIT, TWC WAS AWARDED FULL ACCREDITATION BY THE GLOBAL FEDERATION OF ANIMAL SANCTUARIES (GFAS) IN DECEMBER 2019, HAVING MET THE HIGHEST STANDARDS IN SANCTUARY ANIMAL CARE AND NOW RECOGNIZED AS A "TRUE SANCTUARY." GFAS IS A GLOBAL ORGANIZATION THAT CERTIFIES A FACILITY MEETS THE HIGHEST STANDARDS IN DOMESTIC AND WILDLIFE ANIMAL CARE DURING RESCUE, REHABILITATION, AND THE REST OF THEIR LIVES IN SANCTUARY CARE.
TWC HOSTED ITS SECOND ANNUAL OPEN HOUSE THAT ATTRACTED 600+ SUPPORTERS. THE FAMILY-FRIENDLY EVENT FEATURED GAMES, CRAFTS, INFORMATION BOOTHS, TOURS, PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES, SNACKS, VIDEOS, AND A CHANCE FOR CHILDREN TO RECEIVE A STUFFED ANIMAL AND WALK IT THROUGH THE "TRIAGE" PROCESS FROM INTAKE, TO X-RAYS, TO BANDAGING. THE EVENT WAS MADE POSSIBLE WITH A SPONSORSHIP DONATION AND THE HELP OF DOZENS OF TWC VOLUNTEERS.TWC HELD ITS ANNUAL BENEFIT IN MARCH 2019 TO SUPPORT ITS MISSION AND VISION,AND WELCOMED OVER 300 SUPPORTERS AT THE SOLD-OUT EVENT, RAISING MORE FUNDS THAN ANY PAST BENEFIT. THE EVENT CONSISTED OF A SILENT AUCTION FOLLOWED BY A DINNER AND A LIVE AUCTION.
TWC REACHED MORE THAN 5,000 PEOPLE THROUGH 175 EDUCATION PROGRAMS IN 2019, INCLUDING ON-SITE EDUCATIONAL TOURS AND SPECIAL PROJECTS; TABLING EVENTS AT FESTIVALS AND FAIRS SUCH AS THE SANTA CRUZ COUNTY FAIR, VARIOUS STEM FESTIVALS, THE HOME AND GARDEN SHOW AT TUCSON CONVENTION CENTER; SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS AT SCHOOLS, LIBRARIES, CHURCHES, NATIONAL PARKS AND COMMUNITY SERVICE ORGANIZATION MEETINGS.TWC EXTENDED ITS REACH BEYOND TUCSON, PROVIDING EDUCATION PROGRAMS IN ORO VALLEY, SADDLEBROOK, PATAGONIA, SONOITA, SAHUARITA, TUBAC, GREEN VALLEY AND VAIL. TWC INCREASED ITS SOCIAL MEDIA REACH BY OBTAINING 3,600 MORE FOLLOWERS IN 2019 ON INSTAGRAM AND FACEBOOK COMBINED.
