Organizations Filed Purposes:
Tucson's January 8th Memorial Foundation was established to develop a memorial to remember the tragic shooting that occurred at Congresswoman Gifford's "Congress on Your Corner" event in Tucson, Arizona on January 8, 2011. The completed memorial will honor those who were killed or injured that day, commemorate the extraordinary community response to the tragedy, and assure that future generations understand the events that unfolded and the significant role of the democratic process that was at the heart of that day's "Congress on Your Corner".
In fiscal year 2020, Tucsons January 8th Memorial Foundation successfully began construction on the Memorial. Funding was raised to create a permanent exhibit at The Arizona History Museum to honor the resilience of our community in general and specifically in the aftermath of the shooting. The Board continues to work with Pima County to develop the educational component of the Memorial. Planning is also ongoing for a ceremony to remember the victims, survivors and their families on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the January 8 2011 shooting.
