Organizations Filed Purposes: THE MISSION OF UNITED CEREBRAL PALSY OF SOUTHERN ARIZONA IS TO ENRICH THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES AND THE ELDERLY BY PROVIDING SERVICES THAT ENHANCE THEIR INDEPENDENCE, PRODUCTIVITY, INCLUSION IN COMMUNITY LIFE, AND BY PROVIDING SUPPORT TO THEIR FAMILIES. UCPSA ACCOMPLISHES ITS MISSION BY PROVIDING PROGRAMS TO PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES AND THE ELDERLY IN PIMA AND YUMA COUNTIES. EACH OF THESE PROGRAMS PROVIDES INDIVIDUALS WITH CEREBRAL PALSY AND OTHER DISABILITIES AND THE ELDERLY WITH OPPORTUNITIES TO INCREASE THEIR LEVEL OF INDEPENDENCE. WE SERVE INFANTS, CHILDREN, TEENAGERS, AND ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES, AND OVER 65% OF OUR CLIENTS HAVE A DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITY OTHER THAN CEREBRAL PALSY.

ENRICHING THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR PEOPLE WITH CEREBRAL PALSY AND OTHER DISABILITIES, INCLUDING THE ELDERLY BY PROVIDING PROGRAMS AND SERVICES THAT ENHANCE THEIR INDEPENDENCE, PRODUCTIVITY, INCLUSION IN COMMUNITY LIFE, AND BY PROVIDING SUPPORT TO THEIR FAMILIES.

THE MAIN EMPHASIS/FUNCTION OF UCPSA IS TO PROVIDE HOME-BASED SERVICES FOR PEOPLE WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES, PHYSICAL DISABILITIES, AND THE INFIRMED ELDERLY. THESE SERVICES ALLOW PEOPLE TO REMAIN IN THEIR OWN HOMES, LIVING INDEPENDENTLY OR WITH THEIR FAMILIES. UCPSA ALSO PROVIDES RESPITE SERVICES TO FAMILY MEMBERS IN ORDER TO GIVE THEM TIME OFF FROM ON-GOING CAREGIVING DUTIES. SERVICES ARE PROVIDED 365 DAYS A YEAR, SEVEN DAYS A WEEK, 24 HOURS A DAY. IN TOTAL, UCPSA PROVIDED SERVICES TO OVER 1000 PEOPLE WITH A VARIETY OF DISABILITIES IN 2019. MANY OF THE PEOPLE WE SERVE RELY ON MULTIPLE SERVICES WE PROVIDE.THESE SERVICES INCLUDE: ATTENDANT CARE AND PERSONAL CARE PROVIDES INDIVIDUALS WITH PERSONAL CARE SUCH AS HYGIENE, LIGHT HOUSEKEEPING, BATHING, AND MEAL PREPARATION.431 INDIVIDUALS SERVED. HABILITATION (HAH) IS PROVIDED IN THE CLIENT'S HOME, AND THE PURPOSE OF THIS SERVICE IS TO INCREASE THE SKILLS NECESSARY FOR MORE INDEPENDENT LIVING. SOME EXAMPLES OF GOALS FOR CHILDREN ARE TO LEARN HOW TO BRUSH THEIR TEETH, HOW TO SHOWER, OR EVEN HOW TO CLEAN THEIR ROOM, HELP THE CLIENTS PLAN HELATHY MEALS, MAKE GROCERY LISTS, COOK, DO LAUNDRY, MANAGE MONEY, AND LEARN HOW TO USE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. 266 INDIVIDUALS SERVED. HOUSEKEEPING IS GENERALLY PROVIDED TO CLIENTS WHO ARE ABLE TO MANAGE THEIR OWN PERSONAL HYGIENE BUT NOT ABLE TO PERFORM HOUSEHOLD CLEANING CHORES.72 CLIENTSRESPITE CARE PROVIDES PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS AN OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE A BREAK FROM REGULAR CARE GIVING. THIS SERVICE CAN BE PERFORMED IN THE HOME OR IN THE COMMUNITY THUS ALLOWING THE FAMILY MEMBER(S) TIME OUTSIDE THE HOUSE. 572 CLIENTSTHE WORKABILITY AND EMPLOYMENT SERVICES PROGRAM IS AN INDIVIDUALIZED AND SUPPORTIVE EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM DEDICATED TO TEACHING AND PREPARING PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES FOR INTEGRATED AND SUSTAINABLE WORK OPPORTUNITIES. THE PROGRAM ALSO PLACES PARTICIPANTS IN COMPETITIVE EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES.172 CLIENTS SERVED, 15 CLIENTS PLACED IN COMPETITIVE EMPLOYMENT. PROVIDED PRE-EMPLOYMENT SERVICE WORKSHOPS IN 9 HIGH SCHOOLS.THE ASCEND PROGRAM IS A SPECIALTY PROGRAM THAT OFFERS EARLY CHILDHOOD APPLIED BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS (ABA) SERVICES TO CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 6 WHO HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH AUTISM OR ARE AT HIGH RISK OF BEING DIAGNOSED WITH AUTISM. CLIENT'S RECEIVE AN INDIVIDUALIZED TREATMENT PLAN DESIGNED TO ASSIST THE CHILD IN ACQUISITION, GENERALIZATION AND RETENTION OF SKILLS IN AREAS SUCH AS COMMUNICATION, SELF-HELP AND SOCIALIZATION.66 CLIENTSUCPSA COLLABORATES WITH THE SUNNYSIDE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND THE DEPARTMENT OF DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES TO UNDERWRITE AND STAFF THE YO SI PUEDO SUMMER PROGRAM. THE PROGRAM'S MAIN PURPOSE IS TO STRENGTHEN COMMUNICATION SKILLS, INCLUDING THE USE OF AUGMENTATIVE COMMUNICATION DEVICES. THE PARTICIPANTS ARE DIVIDED INTO GROUPS BY AGE, TYPE OF DISABILITY, AND ACTUAL COMMUNICATION SKILL LEVEL. EACH GROUP THEN IS RESPONSIBLE TO WRITE A SKIT AND TO PERFORM IT AT THE END OF THE PROGRAM. THE PARTICIPANTS ALSO GO ON A FIELD TRIP OUT INTO THE COMMUNITY TO PRACTICE WITH THEIR AUGMENTATIVE COMMUNICATION DEVICES.86 PARTICIPANTSSERVICES DELIVERED: TUCSON/PIMA COUNTY JAN-DEC: PROVIDED ASSISTANCE TO 8 CONSUMERS, INCLUDING A VAN LIFT FOR A CLIENT, 3 POWER WHEELCHAIRS, INSTALLING A WHEELCHAIR RAMP AT A HOME, LANDSCAPING ASSISTANCE, AND OTHER ADAPTIVE EQUIPMENT.TUCSON/PIMA COUNTY NOV-DEC: PROVIDED HOLIDAY MEALS FOR 60 CONSUMERS, AND DELIVERED PERSONAL CARE SUPPLIES TO ELDERLY CONSUMERS. ALSO PROVIDED $3,500 IN GROCERY GIFT CARDS FOR HOLIDAYS.TUCSON JUNE- AUG: PROVIDED 1 YOUTH INTERNSHIP THROUGH PIMA COUNTY SUMMER PROGRAM.TUCSON/PIMA COUNTY NOV: PURCHASED GASLIGHT THEATRE TICKETS FOR CLIENT ACTIVITY IN THE COMMUNITY. FINALLY, WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE CIRCLE K CORPORATION, SOUTHERN ARIZONA REGION, FOR THEIR CONTINUED SUPPORT OF UCP OF SOUTHERN ARIZONA. THE 100 PLUS CIRCLE K STORES IN SOUTHERN ARIZONA EACH HAVE MONEY COLLECTION CANISTERS ON THEIR COUNTERS DESIGNATED FOR UCPSA. THIS ACCUMULATION OF SMALL CHANGE RESULTS IN SEVERAL HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR UCP OF SOUTHERN ARIZONA OVER THE COURSE OF THE YEAR. WE ARE VERY GRATEFUL FOR THIS SUPPORT, AS IT HELPS US TO MAINTAIN A HIGH QUALITY OF SERVICE DELIVERY FOR OUR MANY CLIENTS IN TUCSON, PIMA COUNTY AND YUMA.
