NAVAL MARITIME CONSORTIUM: THE NAVAL AND MARITIME CONSORTIUM IS A NETWORK OF COMPANIES THAT COLLECTIVELY ADDRESSES CHALLENGES, SHARES SOLUTIONS, COLLABORATES ON OPPORTUNITIES, AND CAPITALIZES ON THE GROWING NATIONAL UNDERSEA, MARITIME, AND OFFSHORE WIND SUPPLY CHAINS. THROUGH A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF CONNECTICUT, THE CONSORTIUM PROMOTES MARITIME INNOVATION AND SUPPORTS THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE NEW GENERATION OF TECHNOLOGIES AND CUTTING-EDGE SOLUTIONS TO FOR THE MARITIME ENERGY. OUR NETWORK OF LOCAL LABOR ORGANIZATIONS, REGIONAL INNOVATORS, AND INDUSTRY LEADERS ENSURES THAT THE NEW ENGLAND MARITIME ECONOMY IS POSITIONED TO IMPROVE PRODUCTS, REDUCE COSTS, AND TO DEVELOP THE NEXT GENERATION OF THE MARITIME WORKFORCE. DURING 2018, THE NMC ESTABLISHED A GOVERNING BODY, DEVELOPED A WEBSITE AND PRINT MATERIALS, BEGAN PAPERWORK TO ESTABLISH STATUS, AND LAUNCHED A MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN WHICH TO-DATE HAS 71 MEMBER COMPANIES.
SPARK MAKERSPACE - PROJECT SUPPORTS MAKERS WITH THE SPACE, EQUIPMENT, EDUCATION, AND COMMUNITY TO CREATE A SPARK IN THEIR CREATIVITY. THEY ENVISION A VIBRANT COMMUNITY HUB FOR MAKING, CREATIVITY, AND COLLABORATION IN SOUTHEASTERN CT. DURING FYE 6/30/20 WE PROVIDED FUNDING THAT ALLOWED SAPRK TO ACQUIRE A BUILDING AT 7 UNION STREETE AND BEGIN REPAIRS INCLUDING REPLACING A ROOF, UPGRADING SYSTEMS, AND IMPROVING BUILDING FACADE. BUILDING IMPROVEMENTS CONTINUE IN FY 6/30/21.
TILL: BIOFASHION TECH - IN PARTNERSHIP WITH FIBERSHED CONNECTICUT AND THE UNION OF CONCERNED RESEARCHERS IN FASHION, THIS PROJECT IS FOCUSED ON SUSTAINABLE, WOOL-BASED FASHION AS BOTH A MEANS OF ENVIRONMENTAL AND ECONOMIC IMPACT. DURING FYE 6/30/20, WE FUNDED A FEASIBILITY STUDY TO ASSESS A PROPOSED WOOL SCOURING FACILITY ALONG THE NEW LONDON WATERFRONT.
