Program Service AccomplishmentsCinestudio is a non-profit art cinema dedicated to providing the opportunity to experience the art of cinema by showing a diverse selection of films from around the world, shown to the highest possible technological standards.Cinestudio provides New England, and especially Hartford, with unique films that are often unavailable to the general public outside of larger metropolitan areas: independent movies, classic American cinema, and foreign language films that expose the audience to a wide variety of world cultures. Staff and volunteers choose these films, with input from patrons, to expose the public to the art of cinema at a reasonable cost, to entertain, educate, inspire, provoke and transform our audience.Cinestudio runs year-round, seven days a week, and keeps the public informed about our schedule through a flyer, website, phone line, and newspaper listings. One of Cinestudio's long-time commitments is to show films in the best technological format available, providing both a historically accurate presentation of films that date back to the early 20th century, as well as having the ability to show cutting edge independent films. Very few commercial theaters have the necessary equipment to show older 35mm and 70mm films in their original formats. In 2011, Cinestudio purchased a state of the art digital projection system, which allows it to continue to present cinema in new formats into another generation.Cinestudio is home to several film festivals during each year, and remains open to suggestions from outside organizations for programming. These special events have included French, Jewish, Environmental, and LGBT film festivals, and the African, Polish, Canadian, Latin American and Iberian film series. The annual Trinity Film Festival features short films made by students from the U.S. and all over the world. These programs are often developed in conjunction with other nonprofit organizations, including Out Film CT, and the Alliance Franaise.Cinestudio has broadened its programming to bring to Hartford live broadcasts of theater, ballet, and fine art exhibitions. The Cinestudio Board of Directors is committed to expanding our educational and community outreach. Several times each year, Cinestudio presents films that are requested by local high school teachers. Cinestudio is working on increasing its educational programs, and hosting discussion groups led by working filmmakers and scholars in the field. Connecticut filmmakers also use Cinestudio as a resource to screen their movies. Every year since 1970, many thousands of students, seniors, and diverse members of the community have experienced the art of cinema at Cinestudio. It remains its mission to remain a vibrant addition to the exciting arts mosaic of Connecticut. In March 2020, pursuant to a mandate from the governor of Connecticut issued in connection with the threat of COVID-19, Cinestudio had to close the theater. The theater remained closed until early July 2020 when it re-opened under guidelines that severely limit the number of attendees that may attend a showing. Cinestudio is committed to operating with the safety of its patrons as its highest priority..Expenses $190,957
