COMMUNITY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FUND (CEDF) WAS CREATED IN 1994 TO REVITALIZE DISTRESSED NEIGHBORHOODS IN LOW TO MODERATE INCOME COMMUNITIES THROUGHOUT CONNECTICUT BY IMPROVING THE BUSINESS AND COMMUNITY ECONOMIC CONDITIONS. WE HELP SMALL BUSINESSES STABILIZE AND GROW: WE PROVIDE ACCESS TO CAPITAL TO START UP, EXISTING BUSINESSES, AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS WHO CANNOT OBTAIN FINANCING ELSEWHERE AND WE OFFER EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS, BUSINESS ADVISORY SERVICES, AND OTHER RESOURCES NECESSARY TO ENSURE BUSINESSES ARE SUCCESSFUL.

AS A MISSION LENDER, OUR CUSTOMERS CONSIST SOLELY OF EXISTING AND START-UP SMALL BUSINESSES IN ONE OF CONNECTICUT'S 169 TOWNS. WE PROVIDE LOAN CAPITAL WHEN THEY CANNOT OBTAIN FINANCING FROM TRADITIONAL LENDING INSTITUTIONS AND ARE LOCATED IN A TARGETED/PUBLIC INVESTMENT COMMUNITY (ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED) OR HAVE AN ANNUAL HOUSEHOLD INCOME LESS THAN THE STATE MEDIAN PUBLISHED BY HUD. FOR THE 7TH YEAR IN A ROW, CEDF IS CT'S LEADING SBA MICROLENDER. OUR WORK HAS PROMOTED HEALTHIER ECONOMIC BASES OF NEIGHBORHOODS, COMMUNITY WELLNESS, BLIGHT IMPROVEMENT, AND JOB CREATION/RETENTION. IN 2019, CEDF ORIGINATED 19 MICROLOANS, $354,900 IN CAPITAL AND AN ADDITIONAL 14 TERM LOANS/LINES OF CREDIT AND $833,000 IN CAPITAL FOR ITS AFFILIATED ORGANIZATION. CEDF'S TOTAL LOAN PORTFOLIO INCLUDES 200 SMALL BUSINESS CLIENTS WITH 305 LOANS AND COMMITMENTS OF $13,533,423 FOR CEDF ORGANIZATION. IN 2019, THESE SMALL BUSINESSES CREATED/RETAINED 1,196 JOBS IN THE STATE OF CONNECTICUT.

THE CEDF BUSINESS EDUCATION CENTER (BEC) EDUCATES SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS AND ASPIRANTS ON THE ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE FOR OPERATING SUCCESSFUL, SUSTAINABLE ENTERPRISES. OUR BUSINESS EDUCATION CENTER OPERATES IN COORDINATION WITH BUSINESS ADVISORY SERVICES TO MAINTAIN AN AWARENESS OF THE MOST RELEVANT TOPICS FOR PROGRAMMING. WE OFFER LEARNING IN A VARIETY OF FORMATS ONLINE, WEBINAR, INSTRUCTIONAL ARTICLES, PODCAST SERIES AND IN-PERSON WORKSHOPS THAT OFFER IN-DEPTH, HANDS-ON TRAINING, PRIMARILY IN FINANCIAL AND MANAGEMENT RELATED SUBJECTS TAUGHT BY EXPERTS. OUR EDUCATIONAL METHODS PROVIDE CONVENIENT WAYS TO STAY INFORMED AND INSPIRED ON CURRENT ISSUES AFFECTING SMALL BUSINESS OPERATIONS WITHOUT REQUIRING LARGE BLOCKS OF TIME.
