Advancement of deep submergence vehicles, equipment and telepresence systems including the design, engineering and development of sampling capabilities for government owned underwater robots; conducted major ocean exploration expeditions; trained film makers and engineers. GFOE provided technical expertise in the area of telepresence-enabled ocean exploration cruises aboard the NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer. Exploration in 2018 included the mapping the Caribbean, exploring deep-sea habitats around Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, working along the Continental Shelf in the Atlantic Ocean, mapping deep-water areas southeast of Bermuda, exploring the continental margins from South Carolina to Rhode Island.
National Marine Sanctuaries: GFOE prepared to use its 1-meter VSAT flyaway system aboard a federal research vessel in the Gulf of Mexico for a telepresence-enable exploration during the summer of 2019 in the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary. Primary objective was to broadcast the annual coral spawning event.
GFOE engaged in a number of other activities that advanced ocean exploration and research. This includes unallocated depreciation expense of $367,519.
