A GROUP OF 10 ELECTED VOLUNTEERS (ARTISTS, CURATORS, AND CRITICS) SERVE AS A PEER-REVIEW CURATORIAL ADVISORY BOARD, ASSISTING THE STAFF IN THE SELECTION OF APPLICANTSFOR COMMISSIONS AND WITH PLANNING PORTIONS OF THE PROGRAMS. ARTSPACE ALSO OFFERS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS TO AID ARTISTS IN PROMOTING AND PRESENTING THEIR WORK TO CURATORS, GALLERIES AND INSTITUTIONS.

CITY-WIDE OPEN STUDIOS - SINCE 1998, ARTSPACE HAS PRESENTED CITY-WIDE OPEN STUDIOS, A FALL FESTIVAL THAT BRINGS TOGETHER AS MANY AS 400 AREA JARTISTS WITH THOUSANDS OF AUDIENCE MEMBERS. ARTISTS IN NEW HAVEN, WEST HAVEN, HAMDEN AND NORTH HAVEN OPEN THEIR STUDIOS TO THE PUBLIC. TO ASSIST ARTISTS WHO CANNOT AFFORD A STUDIO, OR WHO DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO A WORKSPACE THAT CAN ACCOMMODATE THE PUBLIC, ARTSPACE NEGOTIATES WITH LANDLORDS TO SECURE UNDER-UTILIZED SPACE. IN SO DONG, VACANT BUILDINGS ARE REINVENTED AS EXHIBITION SPAXE AND TEMPORARY STUDIOS THAT AID IN OUR ONGOING COMMUNITY DEVELOPEMNT EFFORTS. ALL ARTISTS ARE WELCOME TO PARTICIPATE REGARDLESS OF TRAINING OR BACKGROUND. ARTSPACE CREATS PRINTED AND ONLINE GUIDES WITH MAPS TO ALL THE SUTDIOS AND IMAGES FROM EACH PARTICIPATING ARTIST.

YOUTH AND EDUCATION PROGRAMS - ARTSPACE ORGANIZES A RANGE OF INITIATIVES DESIGNED FOR LONG-TERM RELATIONSHIP BUILDING BETWEEN ARTISTS, EDUCATIORS, AND STUDENTS. THIS YEAR, ARTSPACE ORGANIZED AND EXECUTED THE 18TH ANNUAL SUMMER APPRENTICE PROGRAM(SAP). THE LEAD TEACHING ARTIST WAS POTTER ROBERTO LUGO WHOSE WORK ELEVATES THE CULTURAL AND POLITICAL HEROES OF THIS YOUTH THROUGH PORTRAITURE AND VESSEL-MAKING. 22 STUDENTS LEARNED HOW TO CREATE CERAMICS TILE PORTRAITS AND SUPPORTED BY STIPENDS PAID BY ARTSPACE, TURNED THESE INTO A MURAL OF LOCAL HEROES (FROM RUTH BADER GINSBERG TO RENOWN LOCAL ARTIST TITUS KAPHAR). ARTSPACE ARRANGED FOR THE SET OF PORTRAITS TO BE HUNG PERMANENTLY ON THE EXTERIOR COMMON GROUND SCHOOL.
