Organizations Filed Purposes:
TO PROMOTE ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY AND EQUITY IN THE MOST ENVIRONMENTALLY DISTRESSED COMMUNITIES IN THE GREATER NEW HAVEN AREA BY PROVIDING GRANTS AND INCENTIVES TO SUPPORT INITIATIVES THAT WILL REDUCE EXPOSURE TO AIR, WATER, AND LAND POLLUTION AND CREATE A MORE SUSTAINABLE FUTURE.
$10,000 WAS PROVIDED TO LOVE FED INITIATIVE. LOVE FED INITIATIVE WILL USE FUNDS TO CREATE A MINIMUM OF 25 HOME FARMS DURING SPRING/SUMMER OF 2019 AT THE HOMES OF PARTICIPATING FAMILIES, ALLOWING THEM TO GROW THEIR OWN FOOD AT HOME. THE INITIATIVE WILL CULTIVATE A GROWING COMMUNITY THAT ACTIVELY WORKS TOWARDS PRACTICING FOOD SOVEREIGNTY WHILE SUPPORTING PERSONAL WELLNESS AND ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH THORUGH LAND STEWARDSHIP, AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION,AND TRAINING, AND CULINARY EDUCATION. LOVE FED WILL HAVE AT LEAST 30 VOLUNTEERS GARDEN WITH US REGULARLY (3 TIMES IN ONE GROWING SEASON) IN OUR COMMUNITY GARDEN PLOTS AND WILL HOST MONTHLY WORKSHOPS, EDUCATING OUR HOME FARMERS AND COMMUNITY GARDENERS ABOUT GROWING FOOD IN URBAN ENVIRONMENTS AND COOKING FOODS FROM THE GARDEN.
$10,000 WAS PROVIDED TO THE NEW HAVEN FARMS. NHF WILL USE FUNDS TO SUPPORT THE PARTICIPATION OF 100 FAMILIES IN ITS 2019 FARM BASED WELLNESS PROGRAM (FBWP) COHORT. NEW HAVEN FARMS AIMS TO DEMONSTRATE HOW REGULAR EXPOSURE TO AND PARTICIPATION IN GROWING FOOD, IN COMBINATION WITH COOKING AND NUTRITION EDUCATION, POSITIVELY IMPACTS THE HEALTH, SOCIAL CAPITAL, AND FOOD SECURITY OF ITS PARTICIPANTS. THE COHORT WILL WORK ON SEVEN URBAN FARMS CULTIVATED BY NHF AND PARTICIPATE IN WELLNESS PROGRAMS AND GARDENING WORKSHOPS.
$10,000 WAS PROVIDED TO SOLAR YOUTH. SOLAR YOUTH WILL USE FUNDS TO CREATE A 5 WEEK SUMMER EXPERIENCE THAT WILL INCLUDE A FOCUS ON ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE. THE PROGRAM WILL EDUCATE UP TO 35 SOLAR YOUTH STEWARDS, AGES 9 TO 13, ABOUT ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE. THE PROJECT WILL ALSO IDENTIFY, DESIGN AND IMPLEMENT COMMUNITY SERVICE ACTION PROJECTS(C-SAPS), LED BY YOUTH, THAT FOCUS ON ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE (AS DEFINED BY THE YOUTH, FOR THE YOUTH) AND PERFORM PUBLIC EDUCATION PROJECTS (PEPS) TO INFORM THE RESIDENTS OF THE IDENTIFIED COMMUNITIES ABOVE WHAT THEY LEARNED AND ACCOMPLISHED. THIS INCLUDES DEVELOPING AT LEAST 3 YOUTH-PRODUCED VIDEOS THAT EDUCATE OTHERS ON ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE ISSUES.
