Organizations Filed Purposes:
PEQUOT LIBRARY'S MISSION IS TO BRING CULTURE TO LIFE, INCLUDING LITERATURE, ART, SCIENCE AND THE HUMANITIES. THE LIBRARY SERVES A BROAD AND DIVERSE AUDIENCE AND THROUGHOUT THE YEAR OFFERS A CIRCULATING COLLECTION OF BOOKS AND MEDIA, ORGANIZES A CHANGING SCHEDULE OF ART AND HISTORY EXHIBITIONS, PRESENTS NUMEROUS MUSIC PERFORMANCES AND EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR ALL AGES.
IN 2019-2020, PEQUOT LIBRARY OFFERED A TOTAL OF 354 PROGRAMS AND EVENTS TO PATRONS OF ALL AGES: 185 LITERARY PROGRAMS, 90 HUMANITIES PROGRAMS, 38 ART AND SCIENCE PROGRAMS, 22 VENUE RENTALS, 12 SCHOOL AND GROUP TOURS, 11 COMMUNITY EVENTS, 10 MUSIC AND PERFORMING ARTS PROGRAMS, 5 SPECIAL EVENTS, AND 5 EXHIBITIONS. YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS INCLUDE AUTHOR TALKS, EXHIBITIONS, MUSICAL AND LIVE PERFORMANCES, WORKSHOPS, BOOK CLUBS, SCHOLARLY PRESENTATIONS, LECTURES, AND NUMEROUS CHILDREN'S LITERACY PROGRAMS. THE LIBRARY ALSO COLLABORATES WITH THE TWO OTHER PUBLIC LIBRARIES IN TOWN, LOCAL SCHOOLS, AND COUNTLESS PEER ORGANIZATIONS IN THE AREA. PEQUOT DESIGNS THESE PROGRAMS AND EXHIBITIONS USING ITS NOTABLE SPECIAL COLLECTIONS OF RARE BOOKS, MANUSCRIPTS, AND ARCHIVES AS INSPIRATION.IN 2019-2020, PROGRAM ATTENDANCE TOTALED 17,931 VISITORS; WHEN COMBINED WITH THE 21,045 PATRONS UTILIZING LIBRARY SERVICES IN PERSON AND THE 42,439 WEB USERS VISITING THE LIBRARY'S WEBSITE, PEQUOT SERVED A TOTAL OF 81,415 PATRONS. IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE SPECIAL COLLECTIONS EXHIBITIONS, PEQUOT DESIGNS SPECIALIZED PROGRAMS AND TOURS FOR STUDENTS IN FAIRFIELD, BRIDGEPORT, AND BEYOND. IN 2019-2020, THE LIBRARY'S THRIVING SCHOOL OUTREACH PROGRAM SERVED STUDENTS AND TEACHERS WITH 17 SCHOOL PROGRAMS, INCLUDING 10 TOURS FOR STUDENTS, 4 MEET THE ORCHESTRA CONCERTS, AND 3 ADVENTURES IN ART PROGRAMS. IN ADDITION, PEQUOT LIBRARY SERVED VISITORS, STUDENTS, AND TEACHERS WITH 4 DOCENT TRAININGS AND 2 GROUP TOURS.PEQUOT FURTHER SERVES THE COMMUNITY THROUGH THE BOOKS FOR TEACHERS PROGRAM, SUPPORTED BY GRANT FUNDING FROM THE RENE B. FISHER FOUNDATION. IN 2019-2020, THIS PROGRAM ALLOWED THE LIBRARY TO PROVIDE FREE BOOKS TO 388 TEACHERS IN BRIDGEPORT AND NEW HAVEN WHO SHOPPED AT THE ANNUAL SUMMER BOOK SALE.
