THE ORGANIZATION SOLICITS, STORES, AND DISTRIBUTES DONATED AND PURCHASED FOOD PRODUCTS TO NON-PROFIT AGENCIES.
THE MISSION OF THE CONNECTICUT FOOD BANK IS TO PROVIDE NUTRITIOUS FOOD TO PEOPLE IN NEED. WE DO THIS BY SUPPLYING FOOD PRODUCTS AND RESOURCES TO OUR MEMBER AGENCIES, AS WELL AS THROUGH DIRECT FOOD DISTRIBUTION PROGRAMS AND BY PROMOTING PUBLIC AWARENESS ABOUT THE PROBLEM OF HUNGER.
CONNECTICUT FOOD BANKS MISSION IS TO PROVIDE NUTRITIOUS FOOD TO PEOPLE IN NEED. THE FOOD BANK IS A PRIVATE, NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT WORKS WITH CORPORATIONS, COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS, AND INDIVIDUALS TO SOLICIT, TRANSPORT, WAREHOUSE AND DISTRIBUTE DONATED FOOD. AN AFFILIATE OF FEEDING AMERICA (THE NATIONS NETWORK OF FOOD BANKS), IT IS THE LARGEST CENTRALIZED SOURCE OF DONATED, EMERGENCY FOOD ASSISTANCE IN CONNECTICUT.THE FOOD BANK HAS DISTRIBUTED MORE THAN 415 MILLION POUNDS OF FOOD SINCE IT WAS FOUNDED IN 1982. THROUGH WAREHOUSES IN WALLINGFORD AND BRIDGEPORT, A FLEET OF SIXTEEN VEHICLES, THE FOOD BANK PROVIDES NUTRITIOUS FOOD PRODUCTS TO APPROXIMATELY 600 SOUP KITCHENS, SHELTERS, FOOD PANTRIES IN FAIRFIELD, LITCHFIELD, MIDDLESEX, NEW HAVEN, NEW LONDON, AND WINDHAM COUNTIES. IN ADDITION, CONNECTICUT FOOD BANK PROVIDES NUTRITIOUS FOOD THROUGH OUR MOBILE PANTRY, COMMODITY SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD PROGRAM (CSFP) THAT SERVES LOW INCOME SENIOR CITIZENS.
IN ADDITION TO PROVIDING NUTRITIOUS FOOD TO PEOPLE IN NEED,CONNECTICUT FOOD BANK PROVIDES EDUCATION AND PUBLIC AWARENESS TO HELP FAMILIES STRETCH THEIR RESOURCES. OUR MOBILE PANTRY OFFERINGS LINK FRESH-FOOD FOCUSED DISTRIBUTIONS WITH COMMUNITY PARTNERSS. OUR HUNGER 101 PROGRAM HELPS MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC UNDERSTAND THE CHALLENGES AND STRESSES THAT AFFECT INDIVIDUALS WHO STRUGGLE WITH FOOD INSECURITY AND LOW INCOME.
