Organizations Filed Purposes: THE AGENCYS MISSION IS TO PROVIDE COMPREHENSIVE BEHAVIORAL HEALTHCARE, TREATMENT FOR ADDICTIVE BEHAVIORS AND PREVENTION LEADERSHIP WITH THE GOAL OF IMPROVING THE LIVES AND MENTAL HEALTH OF INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES.

TO SUPPORT INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES BY PROVIDING TREATMENT FOR MENTAL HEALTH AND ADDICTIVE BEHAVIORS AND PREVENTION PROGRAMS THAT BUILD RESILIENCY AND LIFE SKILLS IN ADOLESCENTS, ADULTS AND FAMILIES.

TREATMENT THE AGENCY OPERATES AN OUTPATIENT PSYCHIATRIC AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE TREATMENT CLINIC THAT IS LICENSED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH AND DEPARTMENT OF CHILDREN AND FAMILIES. SERVICES INCLUDE INDIVIDUAL, FAMILY AND GROUP COUNSELING. THIS PAST YEAR, OUR MULTIDISCIPLINARY CLINICAL TEAM GREW TO 11 CLINICIANS MD, LCSWS, LADCS, LPCS, MSWS. OVER THE PAST YEAR, 332 CLIENTS WERE SERVED, WHICH WAS A 24 INCREASE OVER THE PREVIOUS YEAR. APPROXIMATELY 17 OF THE CLINICS CLIENTS ARE ADOLESCENTS, AND THE REMAINDER ARE ADULTS. WE CURRENTLY HOST AN EXPANDED VARIETY OF FREE SUPPORT GROUPS THAT ARE OPEN TO THE COMMUNITY, INCLUDING WOMENS SUPPORT GROUP, TEEN MEDITATION GROUP, SMART RECOVERY FOR FAMILY MEMBERS, SMART RECOVERY FOR YOUNG PEOPLE 18-24, COMMUNITY MEDITATION GROUP, ALZHEIMERS CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP, AND OUR TEACHER SUPPORT GROUP, WHICH WAS STARTED TO PROVIDE SPECIALIZED SUPPORT TO SCHOOL PERSONNEL DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.

PREVENTION THE AGENCY UTILIZES THE STRATEGIC PREVENTION FRAMEWORK MODEL TO LEAD SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION EFFORTS IN NORWALK, FAIRFIELD AND WESTPORT. OUR WORK TARGETS PREVENTING UNDERAGE SUBSTANCE USE IN THESE THREE COMMUNITIES. THE AGENCY IS THE LEAD PARTNER RUNNING THE NORWALK PARTNERSHIP, FAIRFIELD CARES COMMUNITY COALITION AND THE WESTPORT PREVENTION COALITION. DURING THIS FY, POSITIVE DIRECTIONS WAS AWARDED A DRUG-FREE COMMUNITIES SUPPORT PROGRAM GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF 125,000 ANNUALLY FOR THE NEXT 5 YEARS BY THE WHITE HOUSE OFFICE OF NATIONAL DRUG CONTROL POLICY, IN COOPERATION WITH THE SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES ADMINISTRATION. THE GRANT WILL SUPPORT THE NORWALK PARTNERSHIP, A NORWALK-BASED COMMUNITY COALITION WHICH STRENGTHENS COMMUNITY COLLABORATION TO PREVENT NORWALK YOUTH SUBSTANCE USE. THE MISSION OF THE PARTNERSHIP IS TO COLLABORATIVELY WORK TOGETHER TO REDUCE RATES OF SUBSTANCE MISUSE AMONG YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS AND DEVELOP RESOURCES TO SUPPORT A HEALTHY, SAFE, SUBSTANCE-FREE NORWALK.
