THE GOVERNOR'S PREVENTION PARTNERSHIP EQUIPS, EMPOWERS AND CONNECTS ORGANIZATIONS, COMMUNITIES AND FAMILIES TO PREVENT SUBSTANCE ABUSE, UNDERAGE DRINKING AND VIOLENCE AMONG YOUTH AND PROMOTES POSITIVE OUTCOMES FOR ALL YOUNG PEOPLE IN CONNECTICUT.
PROMOTE PREVENTION STRATEGIES, INTERVENTIONS AND PUBLIC POLICIES THAT REDUCE RISKS TO YOUTH.
HEALTHY SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITIES IN 2019, THE PARTNERSHP PROMOTED HEALTHY SCHOOL CLIMATES IN CONNECTICUT THROUGH INITIATIVES THAT FURTHER PROMOTED THE YOUTH VOICE. E3: ENCOURAGE, ENGAGE, AND EMPOWER ENGAGES YOUTH TO PREVENT UNDERAGE SUBSTANCE MISUSE, FACILITATING THE STATE'S YOUTH ADVISORY BOARD REACHING MORE THAN 2,500 YOUTH. THE FRAMEWORK FOR THE LGBTQ ADVISORY BOARD HAS BEEN DEVELOPED AND WILL LAUNCH IN 2020 FOCUSED ON BEST PRACTICES IN SCHOOL-BASED MENTORING TO SERVE LGBTQ YOUTH. THE EDCORPSCT PROGRAM SUPPORTED 100 CHRONICALLY ABSENT STUDENTS IN A HARTFORD, CT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. THE YOUTH SUMMIT IS AN ANNUAL EVENT OFFERING WORKSHOPS AND NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS AND ADULTS WHO WORK WITH YOUTH. WORKSHOPS INCLUDE TOPICS ON PEER PREVENTION CAMPAIGNS, PARENT AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, YOUTH LEADERSHIP, ADVOCACY AND ENVIRONMENTAL PREVENTION STRATEGIES. THE POR LOS NINOS PROGRAM EXPANDED ITS OUTREACH BEYOND HARTFORD TO REACH LATINO PARENTS IN OTHER COMMUNITIES. IN 2019, THE PROGRAM SERVED 1,017 PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS. THE PARTNERSHIP RELAUNCHED REGIONAL MENTORING COLLABORATIVES IN STAMFORD, BRIDGEPORT, NEW HAVEN, HARTFORD, AND EASTERN CONNECTICUT TO CREATE COMMUNITIES OF PRACTICE AND PROVIDE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO MENTORING PROGRAMS ACROSS THE STATE TO SUPPORT MORE YOUTH WITH A MENTORING RELATIONSHIP. 39 BUSINESSES AND CORPORATIONS ACROSS MORE THAN 7 SECTORS WERE PROVIDED WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARS TO PREVENT OPIOID MISUSE AND EQUIP THE WORKFORCE WITH TOOLS AND RESOURCES FOR TREATMENT AND RECOVERY REFERRALS.
POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH ADULTS - THE PARTNERSHIP CONTINUED TO PROVIDE INTENSIVE AND TRADITIONAL MENTORING WITH YOUTH IN THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM THROUGH A CONTRACT WITH THE CONNECTICUT JUDICIAL BRANCH, COURT SUPPORT SERVICES DIVISION AND PROVIDED CONTINUED SUPPORT AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO ENSURE EFFECTIVE PROGRAM PRACTICES AND OUTCOMES TO 100 MENTORING PROGRAMS SERVING MORE THAN 10,000 YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE STATE. AN OPIOID PREVENTION YOUTH MENTORING PROGRAM WAS ESTABLISHED THAT WILL SERVE 200 YOUTH IN NEW HAVEN PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
PUBLIC AWARENESS AND PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS AS A PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP, THE PARTNERSHIP WORKED WITH NEARLY FOUR DOZEN CORPORATIONS FROM ACROSS THE STATE TO DELIVER PREVENTION SERVICES. THERE WERE MORE THAN 3 MILLION MEDIA IMPRESSIONS AND 74,000 SOCIAL MEDIA IMPRESSIONS DURING 2019 REACHING CONNECTICUT FAMILIES.
